Perfect condition No financial requirements to a carrier (I bought it unlocked).

Buyer has had it in his possession for a week. Is now claiming it is "blacklisted" and his demanding his money back.

Guess who Swappa and PayPal is siding with?

I'll be out $850+ and have a device that will be useless.

I've been in a quiet rage all night.
Why will it be useless?
That super sucks. I feel better about insisting on Paypal gift on a recent watch sale...
It'll never be able to be used on a cellular network.

I guess I can use it as a mini WiFi only tablet. Or try to sell it for parts.

I really shouldn't be, but I'm still simmering over this.

Oooh shoot, it actually is blacklisted? That sucks so much. I take it you hadn't used it before. Ouch.

I had. It was just over two months old, and in perfect condition.

I suspect the buyer no longer wanted it, or needed the money so he had it blacklisted and claimed I sold a bad device.

He had it over a week and suddenly it's "bad".

Well. Got the phone back. It's indeed blacklisted. Can pick up the mobile networks bu refuses to connect.

Chatting with my service provider now to see if there is anything that can be done. I'm not hopeful.

I was in the cell phone repair business for a few years and this was a common scam.

Even worst scams are the ones that will take apart your phone, steal your logic board (with the good imei) and replace it with a blacklisted one.

As a seller, you're ass'd out since PayPal and swappa are geared towards the buyer.

Til this day, I have never sold a single tablet or cell phone through ebay/swappa. The risks are too high.

Although, my previous boss has gone through your situation a number of times. Part of the risk he was willing to take I suppose.

@ManOnTime, your carrier probably won't be able to solve this situation for you. You may either keep it as a WiFi only device or sell it for parts on eBay and try to recuperate some funds.

This is the first time to be gotten scammed like this, and it burnt me pretty bad. I'll never sell a phone via an online method again.

I'll probably put it up on eBay for a really low-ball price and see what happens.

Update:

I did a hard reset of the phone and....it works. Registers on network for both calls and data. Everything works as I claimed when I sold it.

Washing my hands of Swappa. Buyer has their money, I have my device.

Was supposed to have my Meister Driver delivered today. My wife is off of work for the summer (she's a teacher) and can sign for the package. She takes a shower in the middle of day and FedEx attempts delivery.

My last two Ebay sales have gone the same way from two different buyers:
- Offer submitted.
- My counter offer accepted.
- They never pay or respond.
- Ebay opens and closes a case against them.

Not sure what's going on, but annoying as all get out.

eBay became buyer’s biatch, no question asked if a buyer backs out or does not respond, no way to leave feedback that is not positive, the seller is stuck with return shipping..etc, I think I will only be a buyer from now on.

I think no hand wound watch’s crown should be smaller than 5mm regardless of the case size.
