@robotazky
That post-eruption steam pic is from some years back (fifteen? Not sure.)

It is recharging its magma load, however, as the crater dome develops.

I can see the top of the volcano from my my house, when the cloud ceiling is high enough.
Just my $0.02 USD as always.

Oak Ridge, NC which is halfway between Winston Salem and Greensboro. Our claim to fame is that the military school that Dale Earnhardt Jr. was sent to is in Oak Ridge, NC. I pass it nearly everyday. Another little known fact......Chris Daughtry (singer) use to live 1/4 mile from my house and Kevin Harvick lived right across the street. He had 200 acres so he really didn't have neighbors. The fun part was seeing the cars that came and went from his compound - Ferrari, Bentley, Lambo's, etc. He's an old school guy. I swear he and I had a go on a back road one day. Me in my Z06 Callaway with 757hp and him in what can only be described as a Crown Vic with a NASCAR motor in it and NASCAR racing wheels. We hit 130mph and I will say that I did pass him. He was not happy. LOL Sadly both moved away about 3 years ago.

The Columbia River Gorge, where hiking is excellent due to its having carved through the Cascades:

Another view of Mt. Hood, on which we slide around in the winter and spring, hike upon year 'round:

And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention Portland's legal-weed and famous-food-carts tractor beam:

(Two pics are mine, three are lifted from the Interwebz.)
Not to mention the best bookstore ever. My wife could live at Powell’s if that was an option. My current mug until I break it and need another:

Lived in Eugene for 9 years. Way too long. Had it been in Portland, I would probably still be there. Portland is the best. Powell’s, Fuller’s, Ground Kontrol! So much good food. We need to go back and introduce our daughter to the city.

Live in the South San Francisco Bay Area, about 20 minutes south of San Jose. I work in beautiful Monterey and get to sea the Pacific Ocean during my commute every day.

Melbourne, Australia. The sporting capital of the world!
I used to live there from 2004-2006. I lived in the Eastern Suburbs, Boronia to be exact (no sniggering at the back! ;) ).

I was an interesting couple of years. Bought a 4x4 and toured around a bit. The Dandenongs were on my doorstep which was great.

Where are you?
I'm in the Northern Suburbs. Craigieburn area.
I haven't spent much time in the Eastern Suburbs. It feels like everyone in Melbourne just stays on their side of the CBD.
I love Melbourne it's just a shame we are so far from the rest of the world!

That's funny. I started off in Craigieburn at the Apollo Gardens Caravan Park for about a month.

It is a great town as long as you don't buy into the horse farm industry being something that it isn't. It's about money and greed, not some idyllic nod to a refined past that focuses on the beauty of animals. We have a lot of breweries, sports, and festivals. Lots of culture if you look more closely than the horse farms that the region is famous for.

People don’t want to know about reality. Does no good to talk about it.

@robotazky
I've often wondered how many, if any, of those horse farms are owned by locals rather than some rich schmuck from the Middle East.

Most are locals who’ve families have been here forever. The employees are mostly illegals and the farms give them fake IDs and pay out of pocket for accidents that happen on the farm. The beautiful backroads are filled with car loads of drunks. I sold my motorcycle because of what I’ve seen out around the countryside. Plus horses die and are sold to be slaughtered like worthless hassles.

Generally I hate horse farms and all of the people associated with them, but I have met a few good people that work in the industry.
