WTF is this?!? The guy takes already perfect works of art and puts them in precarious places to make his art?!? At least use Beetles FFS. I hate him.

Thanks....but it was definitely time. I was actually thinking about getting rid of it this week anyway, and then it made the decision for me. For the last few years it was kind of nice to drive a POS that I didn't really care much about. Thrashed it every day. Ideally I'd have both a car I actually cared about plus one that I didn't. Now it looks like I'll have a rental for a while but I'm looking forward to getting something new in a few months.

What happened?
I never got it inspected earlier this year so it wasn't exactly legal anymore. It just needed too many little nickel and dime things to make it worth fixing and getting inspected for me. I'm pretty sure it needed a new alternator (if I jumped it, it would run for a little).....definitely brakes....definitely tires.....probably a battery.....suspension was awful. And it just wasn't a nice enough car for me to want to give it the Ship of Theseus treatment. In the end I think I got more than my money's worth though. Now my heart is saying Golf R but my head is saying Mazda 3....

Compromise and get a GTI?
That would probably work for me. I test drove one 2-3 years ago and really liked it.
I've got a Subaru Impreza, like it a lot.
All wheel drive is great, especially on mountain roads.
Not a hot hatch, but still got some pep.

Follow your heart. Or listen to both your heart and brain and get the mazdaspeed 3. I am a die hard VW guy, but the mazdaspeed 3 is a better car for value than a GTi. The R is tempting, but the MS3 is one of the biggest bang for the buck cars out there.
