PREORDER: Kickstarter: Makara - Sea Serpent
Near non-existent communication from Makara. Terrible.
You’ll get your watch eventually, yes. Just don’t expect answers to your emails. He’ll probably reply to your facebook post 6 months after you ask him something.
I hope something has changed. His watches are really great value: I got the bronze Makara Sea Turtle 2 for $175 (+/-) NH35. “Pre-order”. That was the earliest price. Subsequent pre-order prices were higher, around $225 to $275.
Less than a year after I received my watch (half year late), it appeared on Massdrop for around $175, if memory serves.
YMMV.
Be careful wrt the strap of its the same as the sea turtle2's. The silicon was not "ultra confortable", the buckle is really, really roughly finished and worst of all, there is an inner metal tube in the springbar opening in the strap, making it almost impossible to remove.

Edit: I just checked the Facebook page and it does seem that communication has improved.

The crown is cool. But that is the doucheist strap buckle I have ever seen.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

I am surprised he kept it after the feedback from the previous Makaras.

Re: PREORDER: Kickstarter: Makara - Sea Serpent
This shows I am not that familiar with the brand. Had I known about this earlier I would have made fun of it earlier. I am probably making too much out of it, but is just screams "asshole" to me and completely turns me off the brand.watchpalooza wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2019 11:28 amI am surprised he kept it after the feedback from the previous Makaras.

If you look at the wrist shots they included in the campaign, the brass knuckle buckle is 100% on brand.

Re: PREORDER: Kickstarter: Makara - Sea Serpent
I don't even mind the tatted up model -- if you're into body art that's fine. But if you're so insecure that, in your quest to be a big tough guy, your watch strap buckle must look like brass knuckles, give me a ****' break. It has the opposite effect and makes you look like an idiot. It's that kind of BS that makes lost of dudes think they have to be a jerk for the sake of being a jerk or to be respected.
Anyway, rant over. Yes, I have overreacted to a watch strap buckle but it really chafed me.

It looks like this project was successful. 271 backers pledged CA$ 92,401 to help bring this project to life.
