SUCCESSFUL : Kickstarter: Behrens Original - Moonlight in-house regulator
Behrens Original have launched their latest Kickstarter campaign, the Moonlight with their in-house regulator module.
This is their fourth Kickstarter and this is fully funded, like the previous three campaigns.
*Special 48 hour* Pricing is around $594
Super Early Bird pricing is around $620
Early Bird pricing is around $646
Kickstarter pricing is around $671
Regular pricing will be about $1,264
Estimated delivery is February 2021
BEHRENS ORIGINAL is a group of watch enthusiasts gather and create a brand that is based in Hong Kong. We specialized in watchmaking and watch modification, in which we take pride in what we do.
The Moonlight has an in-house regulator module. As they describe:
Regulator is a watch that has all of its time registers separated. In fact, some movement like Miyota 8217 offers “already-made” regulator function which is used on many other brands. However because it is subject to the movement itself and thus, the function and the location of the hands are almost the same.
We make our own regulator module based on Miyota 9015 and we make changes based on what we want. The perfect balance of the minute and hour hands and a big display of the moon indicator are what we want to achieve.

I'm in for one as I have thoroughly enjoyed the other two watches I have gotten from them, including the moonphase. That being said, I'm still mystified as to what function the big moon actually performs, keeping an eye on the comment section. It sure looks cool though!

From what I've read, it seems to just be a day/night wheel.Toddallen wrote: ↑Mon Aug 10, 2020 12:08 pm I'm in for one as I have thoroughly enjoyed the other two watches I have gotten from them, including the moonphase. So guessing there is a sun too?

Not quite.
I want a big moon moonphase, but in quartz.
Someday maybe.

Interesting concept, but not sure I like the way the hands overlap or the dial itself (seems crowded).

Re: PREORDER: Kickstarter: Behrens Original - Moonlight in-house regulator
Ok, someone talk me in or out of this one. I've liked the idea of toying with a regulator for some time, so this would be a cheap(ish) way to scratch that itch.
I like the dial and general execution, bit in the comments someone has made the point that, for half the month, the big moon will be absent from the top dial. (There's a smaller moon down at 6 - haven't found out what that is yet.)
Decisions, decisions....

Re: PREORDER: Kickstarter: Behrens Original - Moonlight in-house regulator
For those, like me, who have been a little confused by the big moon indicator, saw this in the comments in response to a question about adding a second moon on that wheel:
They can't put a second moon on it as it's a technical limitation or better said 'a different system', the driving wheel of the moon indicator at 12 consists 31 rotations and not 59 rotation with the usual small moonphase indicators. With 59 rotations, you have 2x 29.5 so by drawing 2 moons on the disc plate you have 2 cycles and also the waxing and mooning. When one cycle of 29 rotations ends, the other moon appears already.
With this 31 rotation system, the wheel starts and ends at 31 (thus you'll have to correct each month) but that means if you draw 2 moons, the second moon will show up at rotation 15. This is thus incorrect as the second moon should show up at rotation 31. So this means, what behrens does: by keeping 1 moon on the disc plate, you have the correct moon cycle.
The working mechanics is different than a usual moonphase, and it's less accurate due to that 2 days difference each month, but both do what it's supposed to do: give an estimation of the moon cycle. There is no accurate moonphase yet that shows the moon cycle with great accuracy as it's not tied to the GMT function and even then, the moon conditions change each time.
it's a matter of choice of which system you opt for, but it's relevant and functional. Hope that clears it up!
Here's a video where they show how everything moves in real time:

Re: PREORDER: Kickstarter: Behrens Original - Moonlight in-house regulator
This is what a true crowdfunding watch should be about, going beyond a traditional design with uncertainty and having people back up the vision.
Love the design, even if it isn't for me.

For anyone interested, this campaign has moved over to Indiegogo:
Preorder pricing is same as Kickstarter pricing of $671
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/moon ... 16205959#/
They've also added a new variant, with an aventurine + mother of pearl combination dial.
