Re: MoT's Watch Deal Forum Race

Post by PetWatch »

November was somewhat of a surprise, with 599 deals posted placing it in third for highest monthly total, behind the September to Remember epic battle of the Titans match race between TheJohnP and cairoanan, who set a record for the ages, and behind January's 619 deals with its commensurate $ total. Was that sentence long enough or should I keep going? A harbinger of more and better deals soon to come?

Nov. almost certainly holds the record for the one day total deals posted, as well as for several consecutive days total with its prolific, boom and bust bounty of Black Friday and Cyber Monday shopping manic days, which were overall good this year. What will the deal maniacs do in December? Do they have run left in them? Never underestimate a cheap watch enthusiast on the hunt in the midst of the deals high season.

Rumor has it that the Great MoT Deals Race Place has been running circles on the competition, not only head to head year to year but dizzying like a spinning hand on a chrono, year to yearsss. Aha, this is how we do it!

Does this Man on Time know how to build a race track or does he know how to run a race track?
Yeap! He sure does!

If it wasn't evident before it certainly is by now, no spoiler alert needed, the dazzling tour of the dominators rocks on as we hit the December mark. The no matter what irresistible Seiko, the buy 'em and flip 'em ruminate and regurgitate Ebay, the unrivaled explorer master of discovery TheJohnP, and the never too fake a price and never too big a discount lie Invicta continue to fascinate and hypnotize at the same time. These runaway trains have been putting on a spectacular spectacle for the last 11 months.

To the main even, Derby time.

And down the stretch they come......... At full gallop they lengthen their stride in an all out drive for the finish line. The crowd erupts in a roar, urging their favorite deal jockeys on in a mad dash to the next great penny saving deal. C'mon JP, you got this boy. Bring home the tourbillon for a hill of beans. Go get 'em yinzburgher, git up there boy with some free watches. Whip 'em hard, whip 'em good, whip 'em deals Sultan. Don't give me no SoWhat boy, I need a watch.

A torrent of deals strike like lightning. Tick, tick, tick, tock - Thunder.

It's Showtime!

TheJohnP continues his relentless charge with another blazing deal barrage. The incomparable leader of the cheap pack in search of cheaper puts on a dazzling show in the lead to the delight of every savvy bargain hunter. In full flight for the record books he reaches the Dec. mark, only a short and festive 31 days to the finish line. The crowd, delightedly gorging likes pigs at the trough, start to chant in unison, JohnP, JohnP, JohnP. And finding more where no one can find 'em, he bedazzles with another 180 deals, stretching his lead by an incredible 537 deals for a total of 1391. Nuff said!... Boogity, Boogity?

Yinzburgher also digs down deep, far and wide, finding more deals, pulling away in second place 62 deals in the clear by posting a spectacular 75 deals this month. Chasing?.. or fleeing, wanting no part of the Sultan's long arm with the magic whip? The one that set JohnP's rocket ablazing deals.

And right behind in a close third The Sultan of SoWhat dishes out another 32 deals to stay in contention for second place. "Third. Second.
First. So? Forth. Fifth. Sixth. So? One deal, So? No deals, SayWhat?" says the Sultan as he laces up his ice skating shoes for the grand finale. Here he comes or there he goes.

Second place is up for grab boys. Who's the second fastest of them all?

Well in the clear by a good margin, fourth place cairoanan chose a fine time to orbit the far reaches of the horology galaxy, a black hole where nary a watch reside, yet inevitable as the next second somehow found 7 deals to post.

In fifth place, and closing like a Shinkansen Express train two seconds late to the station this month, with a terrific 74 deal volley BostonCharlie takes on the chase.

Sixth place Dub Rubb, busy modding baby watch aficionados these days, still found time to lay 8 deals down. True sign of a pure bred watch enthusiast.

Not far behind in seventh place and closing fast, testing123 certified another 44 deals. Way to go!

Flypanam, who's flown the coop, is still more than good enough to retain eighth place. Oh Yeah? That's how we do it around here boys, an enthusiast's legacy.

And with a scintillating move out of the rear of the pack, PetWatch, yes, your racing announcer drove in an undeniably spectacular 26 deals, more than half my yearly total, to take over ninth place from BillionairDoors, who's too busy these days buying deals to post deals.

Watch out JP, I'm coming to get ya, boy!

And the rest of the field would not be left behind, making their move with some great deals, newcomers and seasoned pro's alike.

Let's go deal hunters, it's never too late to get in this race. Make your mark on this track! Every deal counts!

See you at the finish.

End of November Standings. Total - Monthly Total.

Oh What a race!...... What Racers!......What a Racecourse!

Fortunate are we to be have the MoT Deals Racecourse, privileged to run in it and oh so happy go lucky to spend our last coin chasing big $$$ savings. Oh yeah! It's passion on a mission for watches.

As the final days in this race come to a close in this fabulous track, deal hunters race to extricate another batch of fabulous deals from the clutches of tightwad sellers. These prolific deal finders who hunt for sport and keeps, super stars and one deal posting stars alike, keep on doing what they do best, making every vulture bargain hunter dreams come true in ways beyond their imagination. Numb, stunned into senseless purchases, in a mind haze they ask " What the hell am I supposed to do with all these watches?" Too late boys! It's the ways of the Deals Race!

With a 2019 amazing total of 6262 deals posted there was something, like heaps of watch things, of all styles, size and prices for everyone, a deals cornucopia ranging from free to six figures.

Off to the races.

The Brand Name Stakes Race
Seiko, who shot to a month high win in Feb took the lead in March from Citizen and never looked back. With a breathtaking performance it held onto the highest monthly total for eleven consecutive months from Feb-Dec. The most dominant performance of the year. The Seiko Sensation juggernaut rolls on!

Seiko, from 5 to Grand, every bargain hunter's favorite watch of prey, it feeds chomping at the bit watch fanatics hobby giving sustenance with every enthusiastic bite they take in hopes the stars will align. Seiko's stunning performance proves that a WIS "can" live by Seiko alone.

Totals:
Seiko - 584
Citizen - 60

The Sellers Cup

The most prolific watch deals hunting grounds on the planet belongs to Ebay. It led the first five months, when one of the so called biggest marketplace in the world, Amazon, made a rather lame move in June and July only to be trounced again by a resurgent Ebay for the rest of the race.

Ebay, where the watch deals roam, and the hunters boxes get stuffed beyond overflow.

Totals:
Ebay - 1279
Amazon - 104

The Deal Finders Derby

It's been called the Greatest Spectacle in Racing, The Inaugural MoT Deals Race.

In full flight for the wire, racing down the stretch past the Nov pole racers dig down deep leaving it all on the track. No deals are spared this onslaught to the finish line. Whether its regular priced deals, stacked with discounts cent by cent into submission worthy of a purchase or into the ultimate goal freedom from $. No mercy deal hunting. The crowd goes wild, deals raining down on them, they gobble it all up, they scuffle like children at a Pinata party after their favorite candy fix.

And here he comes, The JohnP approaches the finish line, slightly easing up but still pulling away from the field like no one else can. JP style! "What's better then deals" he shouts at the crowd. "More Deals" they shout back in unison. Deals he snags, deals they snatch, everyone bags.

Deal after deal, then another after another..... JohnP! JohnP! JohnP! Crowd roars as he approaches the wire. Here he comes ladies and gentlemen, this Super Star Supreme, a legend in the making. On their feet they chant JP! JP! JP! Whipping out deals in a boundless all you can stuff watch buffet he crosses the finish line into the history books. Watch bargain hunters everywhere rejoice! We have our very own Real Deal Super Hero. The myth has begun as he sets the record books ablaze for the ages with 1531 deals posted, ahead by a mind-boggling 619 deals. Speechless! Astounding! Awestruck we witness a legend being been born! The fable has been written!

"Come and get it boys - if you can."

Truly a rare and spectacular performance unlike anything ever seen in the annals of watch deal hunting. Iconic! Now let us hope he doesn't get put out to stud.

Yinzburgher, out of the gate like a rocket he came out, eating 'em all up but one. Yinz! Yinz! Yinz! They chant as this electrifying deal master finder spares not a cent as he approaches the finish line. Score 'em fast as lightning. You may get it for free. What a deal!..... Or you may fall into the sellers trap, fried, grumpy, out of money and out of deal, swearing never again until the next irresistible temptation is found. Deals ablazing this sensational Deals Super Star flies across the finish line to lock in second place for the money with 912 deals posted. Yinz! Yinz! Yinz! They chant on the way to cash their tickets. Cha Ching Yinz! Yinz! Yinzburgher! What an ecstatic deals performer!

And right behind here comes the Sultan approaching the finish line. Sultan! Sultan! Sultan! The crowd chants as this other Super Star crosses the finish line with 839 deals posted. Dee Doop! Dee Doop! Whoop Dee Doop! "Race is over SoWhat" sez the watch whipping man called Sultan. Skipping not a beat, moves a busting, jamming and bumping sliding and grinding, oozing and schmoozing deals afield do appeal. Smooooothhhh! Crowd's gone wild. SoWhat! SoWhat! SoWhat! Cashing in on whipped out deals a plenty. WhataShowMan! This Master of the Whip!

Caironan, with a Sept. record setting smashing move takes 4th place with 554 deals posted. No one will ever again challenge him to bring it on. Well, maybe one.

Boston Charlie closes with an outstanding 57 deals move to take 5th place with 448 deals. A great race!

Testing123 displays a spurt of brilliance with a 92 deals scintillating closing move to take 6th place with 267 deals.

DubRubb, right on his heels taking a prominently good 7th place with 240 deals.

Flypanam, who has long since flown the coop also demonstrates the honors a spurt of brilliance can garner in this race by taking 8th place with 111 deals.

PetWatch, it is absolutely an honor to make it to the top ten with such esteemed company by taking 9th place with 69 deals.

BillionaireDoors, the Swiss watch specialist rounds out the greatest top ten team of stars ever assembled with 55 deals.

Yes! Be it known that this is a team, and everyone who has ever posted a single deal is a Star in this team of Deal Finders.

It's not all about taking, about getting the biggest discount, more importantly it is about giving, sharing our passion for great watch deals by enthusiastically sharing our finds with others.

It's OFFICIAL:

THE 2019 TOP TEN DEAL POSTERS DERBY

The JohnP -1531
yinzburgher - 912
The Sultan of SoWhat - 839
cariroanan - 554
Boston Charlie - 448
testing123 - 267
DubRubb - 240
flypanam - 111
PetWatch - 69
BillionaireDoors - 55

The Biggest % Discount Cup. Yeah! Right!
Swiss Tradition came out wheeling and dealing out of the gate never to be seen again. This is where everyone's favorite bs discounter jacked up price gouger story begins, with a slight interruption in May by never would have guessed it Victorinox but not in this race, Invicta the invictable is able to disable the most ardent watch fanatics with an automatic deal. Deal? Deal!

Highest % discount deal for ten months:
Invicta, extraordinary fabricator of inflated Swiss watch prices. with a discount high of 96.01%

The Invicta Pro Diver, apparently a modders fantasy dream platform, was the top % discount watch for an unbelievable total of six months.

And so,The Sensational Inaugural MoT Deals Race has come to an end.

I would like to extend a very special thanks to all the real participants for being so game in this fictional call of a real race.

Stay tuned for the upcoming “Final Stats, Recognition & Awards Ceremony”.

The 2019 Final Stats, Recognition & Awards Ceremony
There will be more stats than you ever wanted to know, so before someone says the inevitable:
This or that statistic, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!

Trivia? Trivia!

This is a tribute to recognize a few of the many, specifically the deal racers and racing managers who make this great site possible, enjoyable, entertaining, informative and financially prudent, methinks? In regards to the last one. Anyone and everyone is welcomed, more than that, invited to express their appreciation however they wish. Keep in mind that at times the the most meaningful award we can give, and receive, is our sincere gratitude.
From the bottom of my pocket.
Thank You!

Awards will be presented.

The MoT Deals Racecourse – Setting Records by Breaking Records!

That pretty much sums up the performances we saw here in the Inaugural Deals Race, some of which I suspect will stand the test of time. But who knows, records are made to be broken, and that's our deal racers specialty in this superbly managed racecourse.

Quick note:
You may notice some of the stats presented here may differ from MoT's final stats, I use some based on the published monthly totals taking into account a Sept. cumulative release for the Top Ten Deal Posters. In some cases I have used figures from MoT's Year End and Year in Review posts accounting for previously unavailable data. Refer to MoT's totals for the official numbers. I claim artistic license.

You will notice a data anomaly that is out of sync with every other month lacking any apparent reasonable explanation. For that September to Remember blowout we thank The JohnP's Bring it On Challenge and cairoanan for Bringing It On. These two deal posting phenom's have forever screwed up the record books in their epic match race.

Now let's go right to some of these incredible stats, offer due recognition and first award:

The Owner's Trophy goes to the the WINNER of the most money won, saved, races won, race winners and unrivaled record smashing stats in all of the watch deals universe. This award goes to the One, the Only, the Incomparable Deals Racing Machine that is:

MoT Racing Stables

With watch visions in his eyes and watches in his mind he amassed 6274 deals posted by 227 deal posting enthusiasts, almost doubling last years total # of posts for an avg. of over 17 deals a day, 120 p/week, 521 deals p/month – this is The Undisputable Great Race Place for watch deals. Where Grade I Deal Posters brake record after record chasing deal after deal. Magnificent to behold!

Retail price of all deals posted by month. (usd)
Year Total $8,174,008

Chart1.png (7.57 KiB) Viewed 995 times

Monthly Average % Savings
Year Avg. 62.2

chart2.png
chart2.png (5.27 KiB) Viewed 995 times

That's an average savings off retail price of 62.2%, equivalent to paying 37.8 cents on the $. We know that many of these retail prices are inflated and that these watches can usually be found somewhere at a discount. Nevertheless, the extraordinary savings found at times can be quite significant compared to regular discounted sale prices. After a quick and rough sample of my recent purchases I came up with an estimated savings of aprox. 40-60% off regular frequent sale prices. Whether one, several, or many, it's plain to see how significant savings can be obtained.

If you flip at retail, just saying, at an average cost to you of 40% you could quickly buy all the grails you wanted. Heck, if you can manage to flip a couple of Invicta's at regular price you can retire to your horologic mansion.

Monthly cost to purchase every deal posted at the discount price.
Year Total $3,090,336, an average price of $493 per watch.

chart3.png
chart3.png (7.75 KiB) Viewed 995 times

Cost to purchase every deal posted at discount price in 2019 was $3,090,336 for a whopping savings of $5,083,672. Not bad! Not bad! That comes out to a cool $8466 a day. That's 6274 brand spanking new shiny metal and glass accoutrements to extravagantly stock your watch cellar and embellish your unsightly naked wrists. Too much? Too many? Too over the top flamboyant for you? Alright! Alright! Given the average of 17 deals a day, you can buy one deal a day for a less/more cool $493 a day. This gets you 365 brand spanking new shiny metal and glass accoutrements to extravagantly overstuff your watch box and embellish your unsightly naked wrists. Yeah Baby!.....Your're not the type. Alright! Alright! One per week will set you back $25,636 for the year but you end up with only 52 brand spanking new shiny metal and glass accoutrements to extravagantly embellish your unsightly naked wrists. You say what? Me nuts?

Alright folks! Only one purchase a month will set you back $5,916 for the year. C'mon, what else does a WIS have to spend money on? Food?.. Clothing?.. Shelter?...Wife and Kids?... Get real! What else is there for a WIS to do but shop for watches? Shop for more watches? There you go, 12 brand spanking new shiny metal and glass accoutrements to extravagantly embellish your unsightly naked wrists, all year long. Or you can spend 11 months, 51 weeks, 364 days ogling everyone else's purchase and one day a year buy your brand spanking new shiny metal and glass accoutrements to extravagantly embellish your unsightly naked wrist with your Horologic Grail next year.

Sweet baby succotash! Get something! It's not how many, how much, materials, finish or moves. What the fukn nonsense sweet baby succotash! We got free watches, cheap watches, affordable watches, expensive watches, unaffordable watches, this type and that kind, sort of like this and sort of like that ....... Your choice! Choose! You choose!

More to follow.

The Brand Name Stakes Race – Henceforth to be known as The Seiko Invitational Handicap. (Non Seiko entrants to receive a 5 month lead.)

There were 344 different watch brand deals posted. Whoa! Wait a slow minute here, that's about 334 more than I seem to have noticed. I really must pay more attention here, I could swear on my 100 slot watch box that I only saw about 10-15 brands posted. Thank goodness for selective vision!

To no one's surprise the three Japanese powerhouses took the top three spots. When it comes to the mostly “affordable” watch deals no one else compares or competes.

And then there was one. Feels like there's always been one. The one, the only one, the brightly shining crystal on more wrists than all the rest, everyone's favorite – King Seiko! Bow Down! All of you "Wish I was on every WIS's wrist wannabe's." No one has the hopelessly obsessed watchgeeks pulse dialed in like Seiko. With its wide and varied selection to suit the most discerning watch enthusiast, always refreshing anew, modifying or plainly regurgitating its hits on parade, this monster watch brand avalanche rolls on leaving 'em all in its wake.

The top non-Japanese brand is Hamilton in 4th place.

60% of the Top Ten are Japanese owned co's.
Citizen: Bulova, Alpina
Seiko
Casio
Orient

50% of the Top Ten are owned by three companies.
Citizen 3 (Bulova, Alpina), Swatch Group 2 (Hamilton, Tissot)

The Top Ten with # of deals posted.

Of the 6274 total # of deals posted, 2896 were for the top ten brands.
Of the 344 brands posted, 3%, the top ten, accounted for 46% of total deals posted.
Japanese owned companies accounted for 1953 deals in the top ten, 31% of total deals.

And now, to present the Award for the # 1 Brand in the bargain hunters jungle is none other than the lovely Miss-Alignment. Let's give her a big hand. Umm, maybe not. Try to keep your hands off, if you can.

“I, in perfect asymmetry that you'll never see or soon forget, I'm the lovely Miss-Alignment, your Triple X Manga fantasy wild queen. I getcha howling, bills aflying out of you hard fisted tightwad boys grasp.... But nuff about me. You boys know it's ALL about me! I am proud to announce the winner of the Brand Name Stakes Race: My One, My Only, My Sugar Daddy, The Imcomparable Seiko Watch Corp., a subsidary of Seiko WIS (you boys) Wrist Holdings Corp.”

The WIS Pack OOOOUUuuuu Easy boys, Easy!

Did anyone see anything misaligned, cuz I sure didn't. Now that everyone's understanding of Seiko's attraction is clear as a double sided AR crystal, or a trip to a strip joint or bordello of choice..... Let's move on to the next category.

(Apologies to the ladies, please picture the opposite, or excuse this politically incorrect transgression.)

The Sellers Cup
Surely some of these sellers must have wished their name had never been seen on The Deals Thread. They don't know the deal racers.

Of the 416 retailers posted, only two sellers made it to the Top Ten anyone month:
Ebay - Blue – Total 1279 (Based on monthly totals, may include non retailers.)
Amazon – Orange – Total 104

Highest total deals in a month: Ebay 249. You know the month by now, Sept to….... Thanks JP & cairoanan.

Cheapskates Grail - The Largest % Discount Award

The King of Fashion Rules the Discount World. In the overpriced world there are some very nice fashion brand watches, regrettably these mostly fall into the Anti Deal category, those designer licensing fee's and markups aren't cheap. This leaves us with what are basically Invicta discounts and The Wannabe Sourpuss Fashionistas blacked out race.

For whatever reason we like to keep our branded jeans separate from our chichi watch brands. Hmm? Fashionistas, I tell ya!

And the award winner who needs no introduction, Top Discount 10 out of 12 months with a pay only low of 3.99% of the regular price:
Invicta.
This gaudy, pretentious and colossal contrivance – that no fancy dandy will dream of being left without. Yeap, that's right!

It's not the size of your wrist that matters but the size of what's on your wrist. Show it baby. Show It!

Let's face it boys, in the deepest dreams of a watch enthusiast's mind, everybody wants to be an Invicta Wristed Man. Hey! He's a Macho Macho Dandy Wristed Man.

A few to whet your appetites.

That's how you wear it. Wear it baby wear it!

I wanna be an Invicta Wristed Man. If it ain't bigger than your wrist, it ain't worth the wrist real estate.

And so it was written in steel.

Re: MoT's Watch Deal Forum Race

And now for the one we have all been waiting for. The one that's been rightfully called The Greatest Spectacle in Racing:
The Great MoT Racetrack Watch Deals Race.

The Deal Racers Derby Awards and Recognition Ceremony

226 watch enthusiasts entered the race by posting deals, generously sharing their deal finds with everyone else. They share whatever they find because they know that there is a wrist for every watch. Rough estimate, about 15% of members posted at least one deal, not that everyone here is looking for deals, but who knows.......

First Racer, First Deal out of the gate in the 2019 Deals Race:
watchpalooza – Jan 01, 12:49am (Early riser or still up and running on New Years Eve fuel?)
Luminox Recon Point Man

Last Racer, Last Deal to cross the finish line in the 2019 Deals Race:
The JohnP – Dec. 31, 8:29pm
With not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, but six Davidoff Velocity Diver Automatics in one post, and safe to say not the last to cross the finish line. FIRST! Need anything else be said? A rhetorical question if there ever was one.

Before we delve deeper into the stats, more than worthy of note is:
The JohnP's “Bring it On Challenge” – A September to Remember record braking setting month.

Number of deals: 1007 – 57% more than second place December
Brand with most deals: Seiko 119 – 109% more than second place Seiko in Nov & Dec.
Most deals posted by: cairoanan 378 – 21% more than second place The JohnP with 312 (same month, both class acts matched contributions to the MoT Racetrack.), and 50% more then the next highest monthly total of 190,
Number of brands: 143 – 29% more than second place November
Dollar deal values where also broken and set.

Monthly Top Ten Racers
23 racers made it to the Top Ten for at least one month. That's 10% of racers making it to the Top Ten any one month. The Top Ten racer standings started to be published in August so the actual number is undoubtedly greater.

Only 4 racers managed to maintain Top Ten status every month (Starting Aug.), 17% of the Top Ten racers.
The JohnP, yinzburgher, The Sultan of SoWhat and testing123.

It took as little as 4 deals to make it to the Top Ten one month. Hint.

The Top Ten Club
Members who made it to the Top Ten standings for at least one month (stats posted Aug-Dec, five months), in no particular order.

Congratulations to everyone who accomplished a deal post, whether 1 or 1532! Much appreciated by all the Deal Catchers, who Save Money With Every Deal!

The Final Top Ten posted 5063 deals, 81% of all 6274 deals posted.
The Final Top Three posted 3283 deals, 52% of all 6274 deals posted.
Incredibly impressive and concentrated stats, reliant on a handful of super deal posters.

Top Deal Posters - # 1

Four Super Deal Hunters made it to the Top of the Standings, # 1, any one month.

The JohnP – 6 months, posting 111-154-134-190-180-140 (Is he man, machine or bot?)
Sultan of SoWhat – 3, posting 131-84-112

Personal Best # of Deals Posted in One Month.

The JohnP - 312
The Sultan of SoWhat - 131
yinzburgher – 126

There you have, more than you ever wanted to know. But it's not over yet.

Your racing announcer has commissioned a very special award. This is not just any special award, it is the most coveted award in the world of bargain watch hunting. It is made of 100% unobtanium for 99.99% of all deal lusting finders. It is an award that no amount of money can buy. An award where the half art half science of bargain hunting and watches collide to combine into the most prestigious award in the watch deals universe.

To present this incredible accolade to the winner, mind you this is not your average winner, this is the most deserving record smashing sensation ever seen in the annals of watch deals, no idea who it could possibly be, I am proud to introduce to you the creative genius behind the MoT Forum Watch destined to become a classic. The winner of the 2019 Silver and Bronze medals in the Watch of the Year competition. The prolific and inventive horological super modder in high demand for his services, who nonetheless most graciously agreed to take on this difficult project for The Deals Race when fully booked, of which The Deals Race is forever grateful! Here he is, none other than the amazing, ingeniously creative modder extraordinaire - The Sporkboy.

Please Sporkboy, do the honors.
