What is your unrealized dream watch?
What is your unrealized dream watch?
Some of you are aware of a particular trainwreck of a thread on WUS about a guy searching for a "minimalist" watch. Basically he's obsessed trying to find a perfect watch that doesn't exist.
Here's the link, but I don't suggest you start browsing unless you plan to stay for the long haul - https://forums.watchuseek.com/f71/where ... 53707.html
All that got me thinking about what kind of watch that doesn't appear to exist would immediately make me do this:
And for me, it would be something like a Shaumburg MooN or Arnold & Son HM Perpetual Moon, BUT with a quartz movement.
I know, I know, an automatic movement with a true moonphase complication is so much more intricate and impressive.
But for me, a quartz makes more sense for keeping track of the lunar cycle. I don't want to have to set it each and every time I wear the thing.
The only problem is that every quartz moonphase I've found has a teeny, tiny moon subdial.
If only there was a quartz moonphase with a large moon like the Schaumburg or A&S.
So that would be one of mine.

I would love to be able to find a digital that allows you to hide features like Timex does, yet allows you to see the current time in every mode like Casio does. Why a company doesn’t do both is beyond me.

I'm waiting for a Tudor Black Bay in the 58 size without all the gold and the snowflake handset.
Re: What is your unrealized dream watch?
34mm Junghans Max Bill handwind with date and sapphire crystal. I don't miss the date that much, but having it would make it perfect. And the font on the date wheel matches the dial numerals! Sapphire because I might as well ask for a scratch-resistant crystal while I'm wishing.
My biggest unrealized watch-related dream is a strap manufacturer that makes a wide variety of quality options in short lengths without having to charge custom-made prices.

That is about the closest I've seen, but not quite there.
I also like this A.B.ART, but that extended date window kind of kills it for me.

If it's the numeric indices you didn't like about the Grovanas, maybe the Edox-flavored versions are closer:TheJohnP wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 8:07 pmThat is about the closest I've seen, but not quite there.MAAHHH THE FRENCH! wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2019 6:57 pmTheJohnP wrote: ↑Fri Sep 27, 2019 10:07 pm I know, I know, an automatic movement with a true moonphase complication is so much more intricate and impressive.

Edox is nice too. Didn't consider they are using the same movement.
I think what stops me is the color of the moon. Not fond of the yellow/gold tone. Prefer a white/silver.
...And of course, larger and more prominent.

Re: What is your unrealized dream watch?
A 38-39mm version of the Sinn UX with an independent hour hand would obsolete all but one other diver watch I own and several of my non-diver tool watches too. Same thing with an orange dial would obsolete my beloved Orange Monster.
A 214270 Explorer with the bezel replaced with a discretely marked rotating steel timing bezel could replace 80% of my other watches.
A 38-39mm version of the Zenith Cairelli reissue could replace all of my pilot and field watches.
With those three, plus a dress watch and a G-Shock, I could be a five-watch man.
I would make the necessary sacrifices to buy all three of these if they were offered, though funds for the last two of them would each buy a nice used car and those for the first would buy a reliable, drivable beater.

Re: What is your unrealized dream watch?
Hey TheJohnP I just came across this reddit post:
It's no Arnold & Son or Shamburg, but to me the moon phase portion looks bigger than most other watches, and it's quartz. There are a few on ebay too: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R ... 4&_sacat=0

I wish that watch were 38mm?
Re: What is your unrealized dream watch?
Just my $0.02 USD as always.
