I like some of the vintage watches. The Zenith El Primero looks cool.

Chronos are not my thing, but immediate thought would be look to Seiko, Citizen, or Casio.
Although $50 might still be too low for an entry point, I suspect.

Not exactly a vintage look, but IMHO Casio MTP4500D is about as good a chrono as you will get for around $50. Currently at $60, but has been known to drop below $50...

Timex Waterbury chronographs can sometimes be found for around $50.

The Waterbury line uses the same movements as other TImex watches, but have stainless steel cases vs. plated brass.

Here are a couple examples of what can be found:

Timex Waterbury Traditional Chrono 42mm TW2R70700 - $52.36

Timex Waterbury Classic Chrono 40mm TW2R72000 - $50.04

+1 for Casio...you will be hard-pressed to find better value at the sub-$100 price point.

New options would be:
Lorus
Citizen
TImex

You could scour ebay for used and you could well end up with something used like a Tissot, Bulova or Oris.

I agree with the suggestions above. I also sometimes see Fossil chronographs in that price range but I'm not entirely sure of the quality. Pulsar is another option. My pick for a budget chronograph the Casio Edifice chronograph here, the EFR-527L-7AV. Unfortunately it is usually price closer to $70 - $80 but you might be able to find a good deal on a pre-owned one. If you're searching ebay, just type in Casio EFR and you should find it plus some other options. Fareelino see anything you like so far?
