How bad of an idea was this???
So I am getting married in May, and decided to get my groomsmen watches. I also got one for both of our Dads(and myself obviously!). Only 1 of my groomsmen is into watches(kinda, but at least owns a few) and I have only seen one other wearing a watch, but they all know I am a watch guy and this shouldn't come as a surprise. Who knows, this is exactly what got me started!
My dad is a full on WIS, and hers has a Pogue in his rotation, so I know they will like them. The way I look at it, as a groomsman before, you usually get a flask or a knife or whatever and maybe you use it, maybe you don't. That's why I went with what could potentially be a $60 paperweight, but could also spark an interest. I was also very considerate in getting a no date version on rubber. A date version on the stock torture device they call a bracelet would surely turn them away.
Anyways, is this a terrible idea? Do you think they would have been better off with the generic flask idea?

WAY better than a flask, and I am sure they will appreciate it. A flask is fun a few times, then gets put away. A watch is something they can actually use...and that Wostok looks very cool.

Congrats on the upcoming nuptials.
Watches are a great idea, as long as in your budget.
Something special and sentimental for your groomsmen to wear and remember your special event.

Congratulations!
Great idea! Better than flasks. Definitely.
Since you have bought them, there’s no looking back anyway [emoji38]

Thanks guys! What I really hope is that it by some chance sparks an interest in watches. I am already lucky to have my Dad who is super into watches, bit it would be cool if someone else caught the bug. Vostoks can be a fun entryway into the world of watches.

Fantastic idea. If it was a generic Casio or something, I might have doubts, but what you've gotten them is a functional piece of history and engineering, not to mention something cool and unusual. Great choice! Congratulations and best wishes for the happiest of marriages.

If anyone in the party doesn't want one, I'll gladly give it a home.
Congratulations as well, of course.

Alright MOT, if someone doesn't want one, consider it yours! I have to admit, a no date scuba dude with aftermarket(ish, Meranom) bezel is a pretty slick watch to start out with. Hell, I am excited about the one going to me!ManOnTime wrote:If anyone in the party doesn't want one, I'll gladly give it a home. [emoji16]

Re: How bad of an idea was this???
I think it's a really good idea, especially this brand. It's unique and has that Russian military history. Plus as soon as people hear that a watch or whatever is waterproof, they like to use it and test it in the water because waterproof stuff is just cool for some reason. Even if one of the guys isn't into it at first, it's the type of thing that could sit in a drawer for a year or two and then suddenly they decide to wear it or look it up and really get into it. Forget the flask. They're more likely to become watchgeeks than flaskgeeks.

Haha, you're definitely right about the chances between becoming watch geeks or flask geeks! Their significant others will be thanking me (maybe). Anyways, I am feeling better and better about my decision thanks to you guys.yinzburgher wrote:I think it's a really good idea, especially this brand. Re: How bad of an idea was this???
Yes, is terrible mistake.
This however, not so bad. You must be sure to play Прощание Славянки while handing them out. Preferably rousing Red Army Choir version. And perhaps include small note with each watch covering basic care and the reasons for your choice of gift.
Удачи, товарищ.
