As you may have noticed, we we're offline this morning. This was caused by the "Thanks" plug-in going rogue and using up way too many server resources. This triggered an automatic suspension by our hosting provider as they thought it was a malicious attack. The "Thanks" plug-in has been disabled, hopefully temporarily so I can determine if that was indeed the cause, and take steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

I apologize for the disruption and for any confusion that may have caused.

Fake-O Seiko on ebay

Post by yinzburgher »

https://www.ebay.com/itm/seiko-automati ... :rk:1:pf:0

I've heard that counterfeit Seikos exist but this is the first time I remember seeing an ebay listing for one. Looks like there has been at least 4 buyers. Hopefully nobody really thought they were getting a SARB035. It seems to me it would be better for the seller to post real pictures and then send a fake, hopefully a better one than this. Or maybe at this price they know they're not fooling anyone. Any thoughts?

Is there a way to flag this? That is really bad. Literally every detail is wrong. At least it isn't advertised as a SARB, but still.
Also, the most surprising thing is the seller is in Tennessee! Even the bracelet clasp is all wrong, and the font is way off. Here is a pic of the advertised bracelet along with a couple pics of my 035.
This could be like one of those games you played as a kid where you have to spot the differences between two like pictures! You may have stumbled upon a great thread idea(thanks to me of course lol).ImageImageImageImage

Re: Fake G-Shocks on eBay?

Post by yinzburgher »

This seller (jaimeswatches) has a number of G-Shocks at steeply discounted prices. But when you look at the seller feedback, there are about 20 buyers that report getting a fake G-Shock. Then again many more buyers appear to be happy with their purchases. My inclination is to stay far away.
Has anyone here ever seen a fake G-Shock?

I reported it. That one is bad. They even show that it is a 4r movement in their own pictures! Let alone a white effing date wheel! Good find and eff them. If they want to sell it as a mod, I am all for it. But don't you dare try to pass that off as a SARB.

Also, where are they getting these cases/bracelets? I could use one for a future mod project.

I ran across this video on the Youtubes. It appears to be the same Fake-O (Feiko?).

A lot of these Seiko Prospex divers out of India on eBay are tempting. Many of them look 100% like the real thing. Some of them may in fact be the real deal. I tend to think that a majority of them are likely Frankenwatches rather than outright fakes. And then some of them just don't quite look right and it's tough to make out what looks "off" about them. And still others are blatantly obviously fakes. This one was one of those that I knew didn't look right but it wasn't immediately obvious what was wrong. It took a few seconds to notice that the watch was completely missing crownguards, and I could tell there was something funny with the insert but wasn't sure what. Then when you pull up an image of the real deal next to it, you realize just how bad it is....the numbers on the insert....the bezel itself...the seconds hand....the crown....that freakin chapter ring.....ERRMMAAHGURHD!!WHAT A MESS!!!

The YouTuber Just One More Watch got stung with one of these SARB Feikos.

If the price is too good to be true, then...

I see so many of these that I will not buy any Citizen or Seiko watches from sellers in India. Every watch I have tried to buy from an Indian seller has turned out to be fake or franken and misrepresented, or never arrived, and then a painful refund process. Never again.

Could be a Franken... the bezel insert, chapter ring and caseback look like the Thai Ltd edition Snm015. These first gen steel Samurais (not the Ti versions) also lacked crown guards, but the case on this one still looks off.

SNM015

Oh wow. Didn't know that Samurai existed. I guess it's a Franken using parts from that one.

Yeah, there are a few of those 1st generation Samurais that you just don't see about:

[img][/img][img][/img][img][/img]

Still not convinced by the Ebay listing, though. AFAIK, all 1st Gen Samurais had an extra pair of (filled) holes drilled into the case, as you can see on the white dialled SNM009 above. (Do these serve a purpose? Are they purely aesthetic? No idea). The watch in the listing seems to lack these:

[img][/img]

Oh well, guess I'm overthinking it for a watch I have no intention of bidding on. If I had money to burn I'd probably buy it, just to satisfy my curiosity. But I don't, so...
