RLG Watches (AKA Richard LeGrand) has opened up pre-orders on their new ODYSSEA DIVER.

Image

The size specifications and Miyota 9039 (no phantom date position!) make these pretty attractive.

Image

Pre-order is currently priced at $349 until March 1. From March 1-20 it will be $359 and $379 from March 21-31. Full retail is $429.

Really digging the pastel blue.

Though I do have to call them out on the "hi-beat" claim. 28,800 is not high beat IMO.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

They're far from the first to call 28.8k high-beat, a lot of brands do it.

Heck, Seiko dating back to the '70s would call both 28.8k and 36k "Hi-Beat".

Oh that is undoubtedly true. I am basically a Seiko fanboy but it is annoying when they try to do it too. Though I would call a 36k is a high beat.

Not sure how all of those watches are new releases. Personally, I never saw most of them before.

Apart from the Laurel and the two-tone Alpinist, those new Seikos are kind of boring, and then Seiko has to crap all over the Laurel Alpinist with that date placement.

At least it is color matched???? The SLA's can't even be bothered to matchup dial and date wheel colors.

Truly though, I'm with you on the date window on the Laurel. It should not exist or somehow, someway be better executed. Ruins all the other positives of the design.

Well executed date:

I'm less bothered by the date window on the Laurel Alpinist than I am the $2900 USD price tag. What are the odds that a zero drops off that price in the reasonably near future? In the meantime, Seiko is making it very easy for me to not buy more watches.

Within a rather short period of time, it seems Seiko has successfully transformed itself from a mall brand to a much higher-end brand in market position (not necessarily in terms of quality; perspective based on new, asking and used prices only).

If only Seiko had the QC to back up their upmarket pricing move.

What is especially vexing is that they could cut off this kind of criticism by just making sure things are lined up properly before they leave the factory. The "QC" issues people rag on them for are almost entirely limited to aesthetic issues. I have owned many Seikos in the last 5 years. Some of them had alignment issues. None of them had mechanical or other quality issues.
