You can get a Farer for under $600?
This quartz subdial model and their quartz GMT (which I really like but doesn't come in blue), yes. No autos under $1000.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

Thanks for the new suggestions guys, I may not like all of those but it's good to expand my horizons ;)
Is it wrong that I like the Alpha explorer the most? All credit to Rolex design team I guess.
I think I'm leaning more toward field styled watches, I found these two pretty good looking Victorinox but looks like they are out of production:

I like both of these. I never see the 2nd one anywhere but I've had an ebay alert for the first one for the past year and they come up a fair amount at reasonable prices. Sometimes new. I never actually bought one though. There is a pre-owned one listed on ebay now but not sure if they ship to your corner of the world.

Thanks, I've seen it too, but various reports show that it's not the best price for this watch. I have my alerts set and I'll see if a better offer shows up.

There's also a preowned blue faced Hamilton Khaki Field on bracelet for $199 at Ashford.
That qualifies for the 25% off PONOV25 code, which brings it down to $149
And you can add 3% Ebates/Rakuten cashback on top of that.

I know there was concern about the color being more muted, but for that price wouldn't hurt to order it and return if it you didn't like it.

Macy's doesn't ship to my country (Poland) and the one at Ashford is 33mm. Bummer!
Thanks so much for posting these though, I really appreciate it.

Thought I found a winner with the Vratislavia VIS1935 Uprising, but it's 43mm. Alas.

Yeah I know it well. Good guys from my country, this model commemorates events from Polish history. I'm not entirely fan of this watch, but I'm a fan of the brand in general.

Let's try this one.
Unfortunately I can't find any real life pics to see how the actual blue looks compared to the renders.
But there's the Zodiac Grandville with what they describe as "an exquisite blue sunray dial"

[img][/img]
Case size: 40 mm x 46 mm
Case thickness: 10 mm
Lug width: 20 mm
Movement: Analog-quartz
Origin: Swiss Made
Packaging: Zodiac Black Box
Warranty: 2 Year International
Water resistant: 5 ATM

Pricing seems to be around $495 everywhere I've looked.
But you should be able to score 15% off by signing up for the WatchStation emails.
(I tried the EXTRA25 code and it does not work by the way)

http://www.watchstation.com/en_US/shop/ ... ath=ZO9303

EDIT - Did find this one good pic on Zodiac's instagram page

Just came across a pre-order for this blue dialed Minuteman A11.
Price is good at $189, only issue is that it won't be ready until October.
Something to consider if you can't find anything else that meets your criteria.

Reporting back with a follow up.
In a true HUISABH fashion I ultimately saved money by spending more than I planned and ended up buying one of the watches I wanted in the first place: the Longines VHP. I figured if I buy a "temporary" watch I wouldn't be satisfied and in the long run I'd have to buy another one anyway. Also I was able to negotiate a good discount from an AD (the forum taught me well and I did my research) so overall I'm pretty happy with the purchase. The watch is quite lovely too.
