So, which 5 watches from my collection would you sell to make room for more? I’d love to hear someone else’s opinion.
I'd say you could lose a few G-Shocks or Seiko divers/5KX and not miss them too much if you're able to find a good deal on your aspirational pieces.

Thanks TheJohnP for the reply. Yeah, I probably have a few too many G-Shocks, but I already have my eye on a few more  This is where I start to treat them more like an item I collect, rather than watches that I try to rotate through. It's always difficult dealing with watches that are so inexpensive to pick-up, and that aren't too serious - however if you consider them part of the rotation, it creates additional "mental debt".
I have been toying with the idea of keeping my 10 slot box for a top tier of watches that I focus my rotation on, and try hard to consolidate and up-level those 10. However I find the consolidation part hard because I like all the watches I have, and created a dream up-leveled watch list which ran to over 15

Left box is quartz

Bottom Row L to R: GWM5610, GBX100-2, Databank CA53, $2 Timex x 2, Seiko SSB003
(not pictured is the blue Duro that finally came today but I haven't unpacked)

Right box is auto and mechanical

Bottom Row L to R: CW Malvern 595, CW C65 manual, Vaer A5 Navy, SRPC41J1 "Mini Turtle", SRP639 "Baby Yellowfin Tuna"
I wish that watch were 38mm?

I would love to be able to post a proper state of the collection at some point but I think that's unlikely. I doubt I'll ever have any carefully curated, thoughtful collection. I own a ton of watches........I have no idea how many. I'm certain there's a few I've forgotten about. There's plenty that have never been posted here. At any given time my collection is probably spread out over three different locations. It's fairly redundant even though it's always changing. I want to experience everything.....at least at the affordable level. And I'm much better at adding to the collection than I am at paring it down. It's hard to even call it a collection really..... basically it's chaos. But, for the most part, that's how I like it.

But anyway, I saw a few of my watches laying in a little sexpile on my table and it struck me that those particular watches could be a nice little mini-collection for me. So those are the watches in the photo below......I'm smitten with each one. And I think if I ever needed to, I could live very happily with this collection. The problem would be resisting the temptation to add more. "No Citizen....and not a single blue watch? I definitely need a blue Fugu... that'll rectify both those problems. And I definitely could use a G-Shock or some other cheap digital. You know, the 5 can pass for almost any occasion but it'd be nice to have a proper dress watch, right? Ok that's better......but all these watches are round.....it might be good to have something rectangular or with a cushion case. And Zodiac is one of your favorite brands.....pretty much gotta have one of those. Wait....what, no chronograph?! Gotta fix that too. And bro, do you even GMT?! How you gonna know what time it is on the opposite coast? Oh sweet.....check out that deal! Those are rare and they usually go for about tree fiddy more! It'd be stupid not to..." Etc, etc, and before you know it, your back up to your previous ridiculous level of excess.

For a moment though, I was really happy with the idea of this little collection below....

Interesting perspective on how to view a collection.
Not an overall collection, but sub-units...or microllections.

My current collection. It took quite an effort to cut it down to 5 pieces. I’m trying to stay away from sales forums and the deal thread. But still find myself checking deals every three days or so.

TheJohnP wrote: Sat Sep 12, 2020 2:04 pm Preface, there's still a few vintage pieces floating about that aren't represented here, nor is the talking atomic watch that I got for the Leap Year watch challenge. Otherwise, this is as comprehensive as it gets for a SOTC from me.

A few of these I have plans to sell off, included the Melbourne Portsea Heritage which isn't pictured.
Also, feel dumb that I can no longer recall the model names for all my vintage Hamiltons. Apologies for that.

Collection split between a 20 piece watch box and a couple of "closet caddy" hanging jewelry holders that I picked up at an estate sale.

I was doing a bit of organizing this morning, so a mini-SOTC.

All of my analog chronographs. I could have sworn there were more. 🤔

Finally decided it was time to do a full collection picture. Gotta be honest, this took so much effort bringing all the watches out of storage :D

Not pictured are 2 watches I have coming, and about 8 Seiko builds I have the parts for but no time to finish yet.

Here is my collection picture from 2018, my how things change:

Here is the current collection:

If I were to only keep 11 watches I think it would be these:

Most are familiar to you hardcore collectors, but I will post some info on each, L-R, T-B.

Image

Stowa Marine, Stowa Klassik, DA46, 104 I ST SA W, 40mm chrono, Teutonia Sport II, 1200T reissue "Caribbean", 42mm Steelfish, EZM 5, 2500C

Same box, basement

Image

Piaget Polo homage, Amazon special (that presents my last name on its dial), d. freemont 90210 (one of my wife's), gold-filled Lord Elgin from the thirties (I think), a 1969 Waltham diver, A V8 that was my Dad's, another of my wife's, and an old WWII watch she rarely wears ("too small" lol)

Image

Tourneau GMT acquired for a song, Maen Skymaster, Nautilo, GSAR, Spear Diver, Double Twelve, HKED f71 (42mm) project watch, 44mm Cerakoted Incusore, Wolbrook auto, JR Highlands (another steal) on a Martu strap

Same box, basement

Image

A gift from a prominent forum owner ;) , Casioak with case and lug adapters, a pretty nice $20 Casio

Image

Diefendorff (at a price that is less than the movement alone), Yobokies 007 mod, 38mm Baldieri (on a Martu strap), Aquatico Sea Star, a d. freemont build (Airbatic), Schuhren Observer on a Martu bund, Vero North Coast, Vero X WindUp Granite on a Martu strap

Image

Orient White Dolphin, Benrus auto (Viet Nam era?), Element (Kickstarter special), Electric, Quadtec (eccentric watch, dirt cheap)

Image

50th Anniversary GMT in its own winder (curse its tiny crown!)

And, when Rusty gets around to it...

Image
Just my $0.02 USD as always.
