Working on a re-dial of a cheap HMT Janata that was in amazingly good shape. The dial used Urdu numbers, so I guess there was less interest in it.

I am using water slide decals and I am slowly getting the hang of it. I had air bubbles and tried to heat it up...

I am hoping that this one comes out better

I am having issues with the hour hand dragging along with the minute hand. Could be an issue with the movement not sitting completely in the middle of the dial. Anyway, not too bad for a first attempt.

That looks great! You have the honor of creating the first MOT dialSporkboy wrote:

It is an honor. I love making things, so figuring this out gave me another tool at my disposal. It is mostly about the process and I did learn some stuff along the way. The design needs work, the indices are terrible and not properly aligned in any kind of good practice sort of way.Dub Rubb wrote:That looks great! I did figure out that I needed to set the hour hand very firmly though, and it is now keeping time.

Now that I can print decals, I was thinking about a rotor that I have out of a watch and wondering what some cool decoration might be. Here is a concept of someone always chasing after a grail, but never getting it. Kind of sad, but I think it works.

Love the dial.
May I make a suggestion for the next batch? "MoT" versus "MOT".
Regardless, you have way more ability than I.

I am not sure about more ability, but I will take the compliment.ManOnTime wrote:Love the dial.

I will take that suggestion. Makes inch more sense and won’t look like HOT.
Does one count as a batch?

OK, I've actually started to learn how the design tool works. I think it is coming along.
Here is a picture of the corrected version with different t sporkboy text as it was quite small when printed.

This is a very cool project. I really like your proportions. I like your indices and your font choices. I like how the MoT is the same width as the 12.
Just a bystander's two cents, since you asked. To my eye, the 1 and 2 in 12 could benefit from being closer together. Not familiar with your tool, but I know my old Adobe tools allow you to adjust letter spacing in a line of text -- maybe yours does, too. Likewise for the o and T in MoT.
Re: Post your mods here!
Good eye BC. I can adjust the kerning for the text without difficulty. The oT spacing is odd, I will give you that. On the 12 spacing, I am not so sure there. If you were looking at the spacing in the second picture the. The perspective is probably to blame. At any rate, I can run a test and try it both ways.BostonCharlie wrote:This is a very cool project. The number font is din, which works extremely well for bold numbers.

I'm not 100% sold on the "motto", but everything else is A+.

Re: Post your mods here!
OK, Boston Charlie nailed it on the spacing issues. The 12 looks much better. Thank you.
It's all the little details that make for a good design. It's really hard to make something look naturally good. That's because our brains are really good at seeing when somethings just a little bit off. The more you go down the visual design rabbit hole the more you see that there are a lot of really flawed designs out there. It's something that can't be perfected, but I always aim to avoid common pitfalls. Additional sets of eyes are vital to the process since there are things that I'm going to miss.
Now that I look at it, the o and T are still a little far apart to me. How do they look to you guys?

"spork" is a little too close to the 6. Maybe have that lined up with 34 minute mark?

OK, that was the motto that I had pitched and I still kind of like it. I can put anything on there though, that's not hard. Right now I'm sizing this to go onto the dial of a Invicta 8926, so we will see what happens. Now if the printer will start behaving again...
Inverting the colors makes this look dope.
Re: Post your mods here!
I'm not 100% sold on either "motto", for what it's worth. Something needs to be in that space, though.Sporkboy wrote: ↑Fri May 10, 2019 11:23 amOK, that was the motto that I had pitched and I still kind of like it.
