Pet peeves about watches
Re: Pet peeves about watches
I returned a nice Bulova to Costco due to the proprietary end link attachment on the bracelet.
Have an older watch that I wore for years that had a similar attachment method. End link wore out, pin slipped, and a small proprietary part of the watch to bracelet disappeared somewhere in a sandwich shop in a small town in Idaho. I'm from TN.
Can't even wear the watch on a strap or band. Watch isn't worth enough to try to find a part, and the model is long ago discontinued.

Well feel free to ditch the notched 20mm strap on Sdelka and replace with your choice of 18mm when she arrives. I wont be offended. I simply did not have any suitable 18mm straps. In fact, what you change it to would most likely be an upgrade.watchpalooza wrote:A couple more...
1) Watch bands that have been “notched” to fit a smaller lug width. My Lorus came this way, with a 20mm strap notched to fit the 18mm lug width.
2) Leather bands missing the second loop to hold the end. I seem to be amassing a collection of otherwise pristine straps.

1. 24-hour/sun&moon subdials.
It's just pointless clutter to me.
2. Dates on subdials.
I include retrograde style. 31 is way too many subdivisions of something that small.
3. Huge watches.
Or ones which have a decent width but are needlessly thick.
4. Big, filthy rich watch companies which don't give out samples.
Whatever happened to "First one's free, kid" for unhealthy addictions?

I’m starting to not like open hearts and skeletons. I used to really like them.

I agree about open hearts, they inevitably look cheap and gimmicky. I object to skeleton watches though. I'll grant that inexpensive and even mid-tier skeletonization often has the same effect as an open heart, but done right, with hand finishing and engraving, I believe a skeletonized watch can look fantastic.

Part of me acknowledges that they're kinda tacky. But another part of me says,

I have slowly come around to open heart type watches. The Jazzmaster was the first to start swaying me, and after seeing the Apollo 8 in person, it definitely sold me. I thought I hated black watches and open hearts of any type, but here we are.

huh?
I hope the kiddies can count to 3 by now.
I got my money on the 4.
5
6, must be their lucky day.

90% chance it's a 0,
Should be self explanatory by now.
1 and, top half of an? Was that an eight down there? I give up, you win.
Victorinox, I wouldn't be celebrating victory just yet.
Why can't they chop up their name or logo, just a teeny bit for once.
Almost got it.
You would think that for this kind of money they WOULD get it

So Mrs. Dub Rubb has now gained an appreciation for watches thanks to me. Unfortunately, she did not gain the same tastes. She thinks this Cartier is "timeless" and "elegant". I think the wonky crown that throws off the entire dial is bad enough, but WTF is with having gold center links on the bracelet for only HALF of the bracelet?!?!? Are you kidding me?!?
I also briefly explained to her several reasons why she should go quartz.
1) she WILL be late everywhere all the time( my watch said 8:00 but I haven't worn it for weeks)
2)service costs(what do you mean service, why?!?) An exact quote.
3)it's just jewelry, might as well have something I can change a battery in.
But most of all, for me at least, that half assed bracelet attempt. Are you effing kidding me Cartier?!?

Re: Pet peeves about watches
Lucky for me, she is a realist. She knows she aint getting the Cartier, so she decided she really likes this Tissot. I was just bewildered by that bracelet on the Cartier! The Sultan of SoWhat wrote:---------Dub Rubb wrote: ↑Thu Jul 25, 2019 12:06 am So Mrs. Dub Rubb has now gained an appreciation for watches thanks to me. Not gonna lie.. the Ballon Bleu Moonphase in steel is a watch I'd love to own.

OMG this. There was/is a G. Gerlach (sp?) that I was in love with, and ready to buy until I noticed how different the date wheel font was from the dial. And it was a big date complication, so once I noticed it I couldn't not see it.
EDIT: Found it. http://gerlach.org.pl/41,.html Sporty race looking dial font, date wheel font looks like it should be on a Lange.

Re: Pet peeves about watches
The Breguet is so close. At that point, why wouldn't they just shrink the numerals ever so slightly to keep the 2, 7, and 10 intact?
