Bachelor Party Weekend. Which Seiko?!?

Post by Dub Rubb »

So my bachelor party weekend in Lake Tahoe is now a mere 20 or so hours away. I am only going to bring one watch on my wrist. Obviously I need something versatile enough for the casino and copious amounts of booze and maybe the "scrip club if I am being rebellion"*.

Not going to bring any of the more expensive pieces for fear of what may happen during a weekend of debauchery, so I settled on this Seiko trio. Not set on any of them, so I just want to see what you guys would pick and why.

Also of note, I already have a backup SKX007(J) unmodded and a backup 033 (BNIB) if needed, so I was kinda leaning that way. But the CT is just so damn pretty albeit less versatile with a lower (possibly?!?) Unneeded WR.

The SARB033 is the most versatile watch I have. It works with anything and everything.....suit, chinos and button-down, jeans and a polo, shorts and a tee, lederhosen, nothing but a smile......whatever. It just works anywhere, anytime so it gets my vote. If you're actually gonna be out on the lake doing some sort of aquatic activity, sure, bring the SKX mod. But if you're just gonna be in the scrip club being rebellion, well making it rain doesn't require 200 meter water resistance. And you don't need the **** Time to enjoy ****. I've had plenty of booze while wearing the SARB033. Have fun man! Don't kill yourself or anyone else but otherwise live it up the best you know how.

Well, that is a very solid argument for the 033! I also feel it is one if my underappreciated watches. Don't get me wrong, I love it, but working in the trades I feel better about knocking around a Vostok or SKX than I do the SARBs. Conversely, when going out to dinner or something else where I am even slightly dressed up(khakis and a button down) I usually rock the SJE073 or the AT.

It is weird that I have a watch I love so much yet find so few occasions to wear it?
Maybe it is because it is SO versatile that my already versatile collection negates that fact. Time to reevaluate. The SARB033 is in the lead as of now, but time (albeit limited) will tell.

I'll second the SARB. Definitely the most versatile of the 3 and its 100m of W/R should be more than enough to survive a celebratory drunken dive into the hotel pool should you win big in the casino! On the other end of the scale as you have a BNIB backup; if you lose big you can always pawn the one you took for a final consolation IPA or 5.

Not yet a Seiko guy, but would also vote for the SARB. The 100m water resistance suits it well to all the liquids involved with bachelor parties.

My 2 cents.

Also voting for the versatility of the SARB033

My opinion is a diver doesn't "dress up." I know I will be shown plenty of examples otherwise, just my perspective.
The c*cktail time conversely is a little too dressy for a single watch to take on a trip.

Considering any and all situations you might find yourself, the 033 is the best choice.
Bracelet. Black dial. Water resistance. Hits all the notes and keeps playing a tune.

When will it ever be a time for **** more than for a bachelor party? 065 on the perlon (which dresses it down just enough and also gives it a classy vintage vibe) has my vote.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

I am on board with this entire comment!

If the non Seiko guys are still going with the 033 I must be on to something.

Still in the fence between the 065 on perlon as that dial would look glorious in all the various lighting situations and the 033 is just great for all occasions. I would normally bring like 3 watches, bit I am testing myself here and don't want my friends to know just how crazy I am. When one out of six MIGHT be wearing a watch, it's completely insane for me to bring 3-4.

The lume is important for a bachelor party...you will be going to a lot of dark places. Seriously, lume was important for my bachelor party, also in Tahoe.

This comment has me intrigued. I am not sure I want to know what the lume was used for, but I am sold on needing it. I do think that the lume is pushing the 033 to the front though. I often forget that it is lumed until I come into a dark room after being outside. Just one more thing that makes the 033 deserved of it's praise.

I was skeptical when I bought it, but when I did, the next amazon deal came around and I bought 2 more 033s and an 035(the 035 was for me, and I was gonna give the 033s to my dad and soon to be father in law as a thank you for the wedding. That is until my dad fell in love with the 035 leaving me with an extra 033.)

Just that as you go casino to casino to club you will want to check the time, when you cross the state line into Nevada, and also when you hit Taco Bell in Carson City at 4:53am.

Alright boys, the SARB033 gets the nod! Off I go with a road soda. Wish me luck and I hope to be back safely on Sunday. Thanks for all the suggestions and have a great weekend!

Looking good. That was a great choice 8-)
Sorry I missed this (was on an anniversary trip that we rolled into a work trip) but I would have voted for the SARB.
