As you may have noticed, we we're offline this morning. This was caused by the "Thanks" plug-in going rogue and using up way too many server resources. This triggered an automatic suspension by our hosting provider as they thought it was a malicious attack. The "Thanks" plug-in has been disabled, hopefully temporarily so I can determine if that was indeed the cause, and take steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

I apologize for the disruption and for any confusion that may have caused.

Alternatives to slickdeals

Post by yinzburgher »

Though I'm not actually a member, I check out slickdeals regularly and think it's a great resource for finding good deals, particularly when it comes to online shopping. I'm just wondering if anybody uses or knows of any sites that are similar. Thanks.

I look at Wirecutter deals pretty much every day. It's much more limited than most general deal websites, since they focus only on things they recommend. https://thewirecutter.com/deals/

Ebates and the other cashback sites (BeFrugal, TopCashBack -- I haven't really tried these) will show more general coupons & promotions currently available for each seller.

I’ve used Befrugal and gotten money owed every time. I use them just like ebates. MrRebates has also worked fine for me.

RetailMeNot looks promising. As CVP33 noted, they also have a cashback program. But they don't let it stand between you and the codes, which I like.

I also check thewirecutter.com/deals frequently, but unfortunately haven't found a good alternative to slickdeals.net.
There's also kinjadeals.theinventory.com, but it's much more limited and quite shill-y.

The major alternatives for Slickdeals will be Retailmenot and Groupon. But, I rarely use these sites because they have many coupons that sometimes confuses me and may end up buying with the wrong one.
So to avoid that I trust the upcoming sites like Couponx, http://shoppirate.com/, Hip2save and etc.

I used to frequent bensbargains.com. In recent years they've really gone overboard with attention grabbing nonsense; everything is "hot" this or "sizzling" that.
