Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
Doesn't bother it is just interesting who would have thought it was a homage.

Maybe that's not too uncommon in the micro realm which I don't follow except when I see a deal like this.

I have seen a few micro pricing drop back down to around super early bird pricing after some time has passed. But this obviously well below cost pricing by Codek is a rare occurrence.

Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
Thank you to @quincas and @TheJohnP and all you MoT-ers for all the information/reviews/codes about this watch over the last few months - thetimebum code made me hit the trigger on the Midnight Blue - and it's my birthday in 10 days! Missed the strap options but I have a load of 20mm straps I won in a WatchGecko ebay auction - woohoo
Just hoping I don't get stung by UK Customs - an older purchaser (sorry, can't remember the member's name) said theirs was marked down to $10 on the parcel, but I read a Canadian MoT member got caught out. Fingers crossed it slips through!
On first glance I "liked" the watch, though I wasn't sure - but its unusual looks are growing on me. I like quirky dials, the asymmetrical design doesn't grate with me, but I can see why it would be a "Marmite" watch.
I got the box option as it seems a bit of an anti-climax to just receive a watch case plopped into a jiffy bag - a branded box gives it a little more mystery/drama, and, of course, a nice little home to store it in.
Seems there's only a handful of Midnight Blue/"display box" options left (7 when I last looked), and that's your lot*.
*Edit: Actually, it's changed in the last hour or so. There's now a few "review/display units with no strap/no warranty" options available, both Opaline White and Midnight Blue colours.

Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
Tne watch case is 100% symmetrical, the dial could be called reverse mirror image symmetrical or just peeps..
The watch is definitely atypical.
I hope he tries another watch with better success.
When my blue bird arrives I am going to name him Gerald even though he is not a mouse, as a tip of the hat to Syd Barrett.

Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
I'm tempted to buy a white review unit but they're like $60 more than yesterday and have no warranty. Because now he raised the price and shipping cost
Follow my new watch Instagram page @Loupehole
Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
Yeah, it's not like they're in high demand all of a sudden without the price drop. Can't blame him for trying to squeeze a few more dollars.AndroidIsAwesome wrote:I'm tempted to buy a white review unit but they're like $60 more than yesterday and have no warranty. The last new white one sold as I was checking out yesterday, seems to be my luck as of late. Same thing happened with the blue Alpinist. I did get a blue one of these as consolation. Lol

I thought the review/display options would be a tad cheaper, noticed that too.AndroidIsAwesome wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 10:14 pm I'm tempted to buy a white review unit but they're like $60 more than yesterday and have no warranty. Because now he raised the price and shipping cost
The Time Bum's review picture of the Midnight Blue with a Sky Blue Perlon looks fantastic, think I'll pick up one of those as well.
The esteemed auctioneers Christie's call the Audemars Piguet "asymmetrical", so I was following their lead. https://www.christies.com/lotfinder/Lot ... tails.aspxtjcdas wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 9:06 pm Tne watch case is 100% symmetrical, the dial could be called reverse mirror image symmetrical or just peeps..

(Re straps, found a few on Ali, though not sure this one would be a bit too kerazee, seeing as the dial is the star of the show).
Though I think I should avoid these and stay with a plain colour - let the watch do the talking.
There's also this guy (what can I say, I like weird and wonderful) but OOS at the store I'm looking at.

I would agree the original AP is asymmetrical.
The smaller to larger curve follows the 12/6 axis making the outer case more obviously off balance.
The Codek flips the dial to run along the 3/9 axis, which then makes the whole piece symmetrical. Though less typically balanced than most.

Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
Let's just say "asymmetrical" is in the eye of the beer-holder and leave it at that. I don't want this to turn into a bun fight! I'm still excited about my watch and wasn't expecting to get nit-picked by a few members over "that word".
Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
I wonder how I got my nickname "Technical Tom"?
Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
Can you post a link to those straps. Thanks, I like to try the top one on something else.ttl2 wrote:I thought the review/display options would be a tad cheaper, noticed that too.AndroidIsAwesome wrote: ↑Wed Sep 11, 2019 10:14 pm I'm tempted to buy a white review unit but they're like $60 more than yesterday and have no warranty. Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
Wasn't sure I could add Ali links on here, I know WUS is temperamental about them.
The "Zig Zag" says "1 left", £3.29, and is at the bottom-left of the options https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32830093491.html
The "thunderbolt" which seems to have been adopted more and more after Bowie's sad passing in his official merchandise (you'll have noticed, if you're a fan, mind you lots of things are happening that he wouldn't have been okay with, but that's another story) is in right down in the listing photos but not an option, at least not at the moment! £2.63 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32819607889.html
But there is a what I *think* is akin to an Atari Asteroids-style design, from that listing (edit: hm, that's not for sale yet either)
Maybe I have really bad taste (I'm a gurl, so I'm allowed to be a bit more flamboyant - perhaps) but I like this too - £3.29 - on top/six-along: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32862617256.html
Definitely for women, a lipstick design, even I'm not sure about this one, £1.40, seven-along: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000159201113.html
Edit: Another, if you want to be patriotic, £3.29 (2nd row down, 2nd along) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33019482048.html
Non-wacky Perlons in different colours for £2.59 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32853906069.html
Circa £2 from ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233302668269
One for Gay Pride, or the Bronies (y'all know what a rainbow looks like), £1.67 https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32921328941.html
Aliexpress is a PITA to search for alternatives, but if I find anything else I'll edit this post, to avoid off-topic comments.

No Ali restrictions here ttl2, so post those links!
Kind of digging that Atari one. Definitely Asteroids inspired, played that one a lot as a kid!

Drove myself a bit mad trying to find another "Asteroids" one. Hunted on ebay as well. If I see it again, I'll update.
Re: Codek Spiral - official MOT watch?
Wow, lots of cool colorful straps. You found the motherload. Cool! Now it's time to find some matches.ttl2 wrote:Wasn't sure I could add Ali links on here, I know WUS is temperamental about them.

And you do have good taste in fun colorful straps. I wish they had larger than 20mm. Will get one to try out. Thanks again.
