This place is definitely testing my resolve...so hard to resist some of these deals. If It continues at this pace we may have to start a 12 steps program! I've resisted 6 purchases and it's only been 7 days into the new year!!ManOnTime wrote:I'm trying not to buy anything so I can save up and get something around $1k, which would be a huge purchase for me when it comes to watches.

Re: Show Off Your New Watch
Like most of you guys I picked up a few recently.
I think it was CVP33 who posted about a Parnis pilot before the Threadpocalypse at WUS for 55 dollars. I had been interested in a pilot's watch for a while but wasn't sure if I'd really like it so I found the more standard dial option and pulled the trigger. I would have preferred the subseconds at 6 oclock but for some reason that version with a different movement was 30 dollars more.
I've been referring to it as the PRC (people's republic of china) Medium Pilot when talking about it with my friend. At 44mm and 52mm lug to lug, it's right at the final edge of wearability for me but I keep surprising myself with my tolerance for large watches. The strap it came on is surprisingly decent and I don't feel any need to change it. The winding action is smooth with a little bit of... pushback? it feels like the spring is pushing against me as I wind it. This is my first hand wind only watch and the action feels very different than hand winding an automatic. I've only actually had it in my possession since yesterday and it seemed to be running at roughly -8 on my wrist and -2 overnight with the dial up, better than my Seikos so far but we'll see how that works out. Overall I'm very pleased with it.
I also picked up a second hand SARB065 during the ebates 26% off at rakuten global which arrived today.
Not much to say that hasn't been said about it all over the internet. It's in great condition with the only mark i can find a small scratch on the bezel near the 12 oclock position which was mentioned in the description but I thought they meant it was on the crystal. I took it off the standard strap and threw it on a Mr Sailcloth strap for now while I think about other strap options. The seller was a shop/account named Closer, we had a little bit of email communication which I had no trouble understanding, everything went smoothly. My first Rakuten Global purchase, I guess I'll be looking over there more closely in the future.
A WUS member was selling his Timex Weekender for the cost of shipping. Makes a nice beater and is my only creme (cream?) dial watch. I'd read that it is loud, but didn't really understand until now! Indiglo is really cool.

Indiglo may never make it on to sistem_32's Haute Horlogerie Discussion, but it is still one of my favorite watch features. Enjoy the recent acquistions!

SEIKO SRPC41j1 Prospex PADI mini-turtle
There are simply no pictures that do this watch justice.....especially not mine. What a watch. I strangely want to put it on a bracelet. Can't explain why...makes no sense for this diver.

Michael Strogoff just brought me a parcel...
The good, that the Tsar's Courier has managed to avoid, among other dangers in his hazardous journey, the spanish customs taxes... the bad, that has taken two months.
A lot of watch for 80 euros. Even the strap is good, something unusual in a Vostok.
The watch is a reissue of a "Chistopolskie" WW2 russian military watch.

This is a cool watch! I think it’s going to push a couple out of the box. I’m back up too high in qty and needing to purge, but I think this one stays. It looks much better in person. The sandwich markers combined with the raised markers is interesting. Very understated, but still exhibiting quality.

A little cape cod, clean up that black paint on the bezel and added the bracelet. Yup, definitely feels better on the bracelet. Feels very similar to the Panerai Luminor bracelet.....not that I would know. $44 on Walmart.com and well worth it.

Re: Show Off Your New Watch
I really like Rolex pre-ceramic watches. Values on them are going up, up, up, so it's hard to find a good deal.
Pre-ceramic GMT on the left, new model ceramic GMT on the right (much chunkier, thicker, less refined), not my picture
Rakuten Global and Ebates came through though with 26% cash back and 1.5% back on my credit card. So I got a substantial discount from fair market value, which is near impossible to do on Rolex. The watch was a tiny bit rough, but some cleaning, light polishing, and brushing got her just about perfect. It's a 2001 GMT Master II. That to me is a sweet spot year - Super Luminova, holes case, and solid end link bracelet. I took a big gamble, but it looks like it paid off.
