Post your caseback photos here!

Post by yinzburgher »

Let's see some pictures of your favorite casebacks. I'm interested to see what's out there. All kinds.......solid, exhibition, engraved, etched, plain, decorated, skeletonized, painted, whatever. If it's the back of your watch and you like to look at it, please share a photo here. I probably don't have too many of interest but below is one I like to look at. It's the Seagull ST19, or more specifically ST1901, in my Baltic Bicompax chronograph. I think the blue screws and purple jewels look really cool with the gold tone gears and Geneva striping.

Whaddya got? Pics please!

OK, I somehow feel like the inclusion of painted casebacks was directed at me. I really need to be better about taking before pictures and doing side by side images. A little paint can make the caseback are pop. If the engraving is deep and crisp, it can come out stunning. I plan on writing a how too in the coming week or so with lots of pictures.

Nixon-The Mod-Clean
I normally wouldn’t have added yellow to this caseback, but it matched the seconds hand so I put it in there. Black and red are staples in print design, so I generally include black with a pop of red someplace. If there is a color to the theme of the watch, I will try to use that.

Victorinox 241089 Titanium with nice deep engraving. This came out amazingly well. I used oil-based paint pens and I feel like it needs sealing or it isn’t going to wear well in the long term. On the other hand, all the paint is recessed.

Vostok Amphibia, Komandirske (Sdelka) and Timex Expedition.

Edit: I had some photo problems. I will fix later.

eBay listing photo here but I am sharing as I am tempted to put in a low offer on a junk digital watch lot just to get my hands on this Omni caseback.

Image
It is being sold with a conventional looking 80’s digital, but as you can see it is not installed. The only models I see with this caseback are calculators, so it may be mismatched. Still, that is some beautiful caseback design right there.

⬆⬆⬆ Very cool caseback Stretch. I finally looked up why the Speedmaster and other Omegas have hippocampus on the back. There's a blog post from Bob's Watches about it. Apparently one of their designers was inspired by the ornamentation on gondolas after a trip to Venice.

Something to do with commemorating a mentor to the youth from the police force or something. All I can read is 1981.

Edit: I'll try to dig up the post where someone translated it for me later. Too drunk.

Literally...

To Leonid Petrovich Vinnichenko best mentor, from УВД.
June 1981

Not sure what УВД is. Possibly Ministry of Internal Affairs or Russian for Air Traffic Control.

Thanks bro! That sounds like the same translation I got from the original post, and I think the consensus was internal affairs. I was pretty close! But thank you for translating .
