After logging in to Ebates tonight a message popped up stating I had been upgraded to Rakuten. Ebates is now known as Rakuten, and everything remains the same.
When I type in Rakuten.com in the browser address bar it takes me to what used to be known as Ebates. I can still type in Ebates.com but once logged in it switches to Rakuten.com.
The two marketplaces remain separate sites with separate log in.
Rakuten marketplace (US): https://www.rakuten.com/shop/
Rakuten Global remains the same: https://global.rakuten.com/en/
According to Rakuten Inc., in Japanese, Rakuten stands for ‘optimism.’

Re: Ebates is Now Rakuten
I got this too. I know they are a huge successful company with many people smarter than me working on this but somehow I feel they didn't entirely think this through. This will be confusing if they call both sites Rakuten. Ebates was actually a good name that cleverly made reference to the purpose of the website.PetWatch wrote: ↑Mon Feb 04, 2019 11:24 pm After logging in to Ebates tonight a message popped up stating I had been upgraded to Rakuten. I don't view this decision with much rakuten.in Japanese, Rakuten stands for ‘optimism.’
Re: Ebates is Now Rakuten
I don't get it either, as if Ebates and the Rakutens individually are not already complicated enough.
Perhaps a bit too much rakuten on their part.

Re: Ebates is Now Rakuten
It's one of the Japanese words for "optimism," and a very touchy-feely lifestyle-ish way of naming a company.
Of course, Americans like myself are just too crude and direct, and so we think they completely screwed up by ditching an already-established and obvious domain name (Buy.com)
Can you imagine how much money they could make if they sold that domain?
Re: Ebates is Now Rakuten
Wow, I didn't know they were buy.com. I remember back in the 90's when it became evident that the web was going to take off commercially there was a race to register generic domain names to later resell to the highest corp. bidder.deckeda wrote: ↑Sun Feb 10, 2019 10:36 pmIt's one of the Japanese words for "optimism," and a very touchy-feely lifestyle-ish way of naming a company.

Re: Ebates is Now Rakuten
A couple days ago I was in Las Vegas and saw and ad on TV for "Ebates, a Rakuten company".
I'm not sure who the hell they are anymore. Worst still, I don't think they know who they are.

Re: Ebates is Now Rakuten
I just used my Android app today and it is still called Ebates.
Re: Ebates is Now Rakuten
I don't use their app. The ads I've seen in LA are for Rakuten, not Ebates. Both websites are active, though once I log in from the Ebates website it changes over to Rakuten. Not that any of this matters much considering all the other issues we have with CB casino game.
