Do you resell watches?

Post by qrocks »

I know a few folks regularly resell watches. I personally haven't resold any of the watches I've purchased over the years. I'm interested in seeing the split between the sellers and the keepers.

No, I generally keep every watch I purchase.

On the rare instances I have sold, it has usually been for what they were purchased for, or for a minute profit that is used for the next purchase.

It is a rare occasion for me to sell a watch.

All the time -- almost 50 transactions on reddit. I like to try new things and don't have the watch budget to keep every watch I end up getting. My collection as of today is ~15 pieces and of those, there are two I'll never sell.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

Without actually counting, I'd guess I've sold 10-20% of what I've purchased. Usually for roughly what I paid for it. Only one, a Kickstarter from Klokers, was a catch and release. Reasons for selling the rest: Doesn't fit well, doesn't get worn, want to buy something else and need to justify spending the money.

I don't typically sell my watches but will do so to free up cash for another purchase or if the watch just isn't getting any love. I'm not in the flipping game.

I regularly resell. I'm not wealthy enough to afford a perpetual influx without something leaving and thereby providing funding for the new stuff. I always try to buy shrewdly enough that I don't lose on resale and so far it's worked out fairly well.

Looking back over the past ten or so years, I think that for every watch in my collection, I have sold two.

That said, the kept-to-flipped ratio has moderated in the last two years as the collection matures.
Just my $0.02 USD as always.

Pretty sure it's asking whether you sneak into people's houses, steal their watches, and then resell them (the watches, not people).

First 10 years or so I sold 3 watches out of the collection. Then I didn't sell anything for years and collection ballooned. It was an unmanageable unwearable guilt infested beautiful expensive mess of incoherence. In the last year I sold about 30. Mostly in an effort to refine and bring some sanity to the collection and of course to fund more considered new ones. Stuff just wasn't getting worn especially with mostly working from home.

I've given away far more watches than I have sold. Selling the few I did have mostly been someone asking if I'd sell rather than me posting a FS ad. I have way too many. Yet also too few. Selling seems like such a hassle.

I keep most of mine. I tell myself that this is due to lack of opportunity to sell where I am, but in reality it is also due to laziness.

The watches that I've moved have been given away to friends/family for free.

I didn’t use to sell my watches until it got a bit too much..so now I have a rule one new in (maybe) sell one of the old ones..in the end new ones > sold pieces so the SOTC gradually creeps up but not on purpose..and I don’t usually sell for a profit, lucky if I can break even..more to reduce the collection size to a more manageable size and let others wear the pieces I rarely wear...
