Well, somebody at ToMo is apparently reading this forum. They took down the Eterna (either that or they sold 10 in an hour ). At $ 1,600 a piece it was the best price available currently, although IMHO still overpriced.
Likely somebody went in and bought as many as they could to resell.....ruining everybody's fun. Seen it happen repeatedly lately whenever there are really good deals....I wish they would put limits on all these "deals" to prevent wholesaling resellers/flippers from ruining the opportunity for others, but...the retailers just want to liquidate ASAP, so whatcha gonna do? Which kind of makes these deal forums counter-productive = by the time you post a good deal, the deals are gone....mini rant over

That's a very nice deal. Like you said, ETA 2824-2 and has a Dubois-Depraz 2040 chronograph module.

Possibly, but more likely that ToMo belatedly realized that the 20% off price did not leave them enough to cover the cost to Gemnation (where I believe these Eternas came from) and leave some margin.

Unlikely as these sold at Ashford a year ago for less than a thousand, not too many flippers are going to jump on a 20% off deal in the first place, try 40 to 50 minimum (off of the going rate not msrp) to get you through the door, (selling is expensive), plus ToM has had a glitch for a long time now that if you search, for instance 'Alpina' or 'Eterna', it shows you old listings at first that are not active at all anymore, and until you hit the 'Add To Cart' button, then it refreshes and gives you an out of stock message
