Speaking of quality, they are a bit hit or miss. I had a gmt master styled parnis, excellent case, bezel and bracelet, overall good fit and finish, but pretty bad lume, movement (chinese) failed after a month or so. Get them with miyota and you should be fine.

The Daytonas mentioned before are Seiko mecaquartz.

Looks like DiscountShop has marked down some of their listings. These are just the ones that jumped out at me on a quick Seiko search, so visit them to see if they have your favorites marked down. BeFrugal has 2% cash back for DiscountShop atm. DS seems to list their watches on eBay and Walmart for a little more coin -- esp. nice when there's cash back or codes, but maybe you just have some eBay bucks to spend (h/t CVP).

This could be a Bolster Trifecta contender. 36mm is a good size unless you have Chewbacca wrists.

It's perfect in many ways. Love the date at the EDGE of the dial, is that so difficult? I don't often wear a watch that small but may have to adjust my mind.

Love the date at the EDGE of the dial, is that so difficult?

Yes. If you are using standard off the shelf movements then the date wheel is already attached, which determines how far from the center the date can appear. A manufacturer can make a custom date ring, but I am not sure how often this is done.

In general, if I know the movement in a watch for a particular chronograph movement, I am looking at you VD53, the I can gauge the size of the watch by the proximity of the date window to the edge of the case.

In the case of this watch, it looks like the dial is as small as this movement can comfortably handle so you get that nice edge date window.
