I’ve always wanted to try astrophotography so with a new moon and some PTO to burn I figured I’d get out of town and give it a shot. This is my first attempt, which I plan to re-edit on a real monitor when I get home but considering I have no clue what I’m doing I’m happy with how it turned out.

DUDE. That shot is absolutely stunning. Looks like you‘re a natural...

Great pic! What gear and settings did you use?
Thanks! This was on a D7200 with the Nikon 16-80 f/2.8-4. Shot at 16mm 2.8/20 seconds/iso 2000. I took 5 of the same exposure which I plan to stack in Sequator to reduce noise for the final edit.

I appreciate the kind words. It was actually a surprisingly easy shoot, it was all about the planning. I did a ton of online research ahead of time to find out when I’d have the most favorable conditions and spent the day scouting locations which made all the difference when I came back at night.

Very well done! I know that this type of photography is time consuming, but feel free to keep 'em coming.

I did the exact same thing to capture Neowise back in July (a few pics posted above). I was amazed at the results I got as a total n00b to astrophotography with a bit of research and planning. I’d definitely like to do more of it.
And for the record, my shots don’t compare to yours. Amazing.

Not my pic... obviously. Cosmonaut took this from ISS of the Soyuz launch. Pretty cool.

Thanks for posting this. It makes me tingly
. I have pretty much been offline for about five days, so other than knowing about the launch I have not seen anything.

Nearing the end of my southern Utah sightseeing tour. This was today’s sunrise at “The Windows” in Arches National Park

Arches NP at sunset is pretty nice too.
I did a two-week tour of Utah last summer, hitting Zion, Arches, and Canyonlands, plus a couple days in SLC. I went canyoneering near Arches on my 40th birthday. It was all awe-inspiring. I would love a vacation home in Moab.

We installed these cool mirrors in our bathroom that have an LED strip around the edge. I noticed last night they make a rectangular reflection in my eyes. So I took a creepy Halloween season pic:

Does anyone remember this? I see it floating around forums and the internet, but I made it on my phone during a very boring meeting. This was right after the new Pelagos came out and the fanboys were up in arms over the dial text. I just found it scrolling old photos on my phone. I still get a laugh.

What better way to social distance than taking pictures on an empty beach? Unfortunately the sunset was mostly obscured by clouds but enough color peeked through to pull of a decent shot.
