That's exactly how I ended up joining MoT. I remember coming across the HUISABH thread and thinking "Memes, off-topic banter...what is this insane place?!" 20 seconds later I had an account.

Right?!?! I am fascinated. Did a quadruple take and still can't figure out why the eff it exists. In the other hand, it is also awesome.
Sounds like you answered your own question
Hey, who doesn't like dolphins?
OK, OK, here's the source. Though I'm not sure if it'll answer your questions or raise more.

The atmosphere here is great.
MoT and the others behind the scenes are doing a great job.
I'm not a computer person at all but I assume this stuff isn't easy and takes a lot of time.

On a scale of 1-10 it's sometimes a "Why the hell did I start doing this?" but that's very infrequent.
I'd say I spend at least 20 hours a week (if not more) on here, with only a part of that being behind the curtain/under the hood work.
Most of my job here is to make sure the software is running smoothly/is up to date, sweeping out bots and spam accounts, compiling stats and reading every post made.
The last year has been a real pleasure, and at certain times been pretty therapeutic. I have the great group of users assembled here to thank for that.
