It would be really cool if they channeled this into something not a replica. As you said, wasted potential for sure.

I recall something like that. It was like 6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon stuff where this fake producer was somehow tied to some dude in Philly and someone's name was dragged through the mud and all related to a brand starting with "G" or something. It was like a whodunit murder mystery...
