The price point is obviously not for everyone, but DeWitt watches have been on an aggressive "clearance" for a while. Not sure if they are just overstocked or if something is wrong with their AD chain.

Rumor had it, they were very focused on the Russian and to a lesser extent Chinese markets, where watches were given as "gifts" (bribes) where MSRP was very important for prestige... From what I gather, the Russian market for ultra-high end pieces is down and these practices have been put an end to in China, or at least curtailed to a large degree.

But back in the day, DeWitt allegedly would sell them for 60%+ off directly to clients. The problem was, once the word got out, you can't put that genie back in the lamp (and I would assume you'd have some really unhappy dealers) so their resale value on everything from their "entry level" steel sports watches to their super high-end complicated pieces just took a massive nosedive. 75-85% off across the board, depending whether new or used.

I almost picked up a Glorious Knight in steel, which from what I gather has a regulated 2892-2 in it, mostly because I liked the case and the hands are solid gold so they won't rust with time... but then I decided that $2K can buy a lot of (other) watch these days, and if/when I get tired of it, I'll have to eat a big loss when I have to sell it so I decided against it.
