From advice published in Rich People’s Problems, a monthly column in the Financial Times by James Max, during the coronavirus pandemic.

Don’t be swayed by men in tweed jackets who tell you that you need a small-wheeled manual sports car. They’re the kind of people who drive MGBs, a car suitable only for short people with a waist size less than thirty-four inches, who don’t care about looking undignified falling out of the low-slung ****.

(I had an MGB, but not a size 34 waist since elementary school.)

That moment when grownup life catches up with you and you trade in your 2litre Renault sport hot hatchback for a family sized Volvo estate car….. sigh! The manager of the garage took one look at the Clio, asked a few questions and bought it for himself as a track day car!

I wish we still had Renault (and Citroen for that matter) on this side of the Atlantic.

Enjoy the Volvo!

I wish we still had more estate/station wagon models on this side too.

Volvo do make a classy station wagon- it’s a different drive to a Renault that red lined at 7000 rpm!!!

As do I. Before Mrs.MoT and I bought the car we have, we took look at a Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI and a Buick Regal TourX. Mrs.MoT liked the Jetta for it's size and potential fuel economy, while I liked the Regal for its looks and potential performance modification capability.

The Regal is sure good looking, I think:

That Regal is a smart looking car, I went for the diesel Volvo- more economical, and then fuel prices went through the roof and now I don’t look quite so clever!!

My son and I spotted this being towed on I-40 outside Knoxville and then stumbled upon it again when we stopped for lunch and fuel. Googling this Keen Project, it appears there aren’t many of these builds — my son said this appears to be build number one. Their site has photos of it in action.

Number 2 lives around here. I've seen it a few times, and there's been videos of it tearing around in the winter, jumping curbs, and all kinds of other shenanigans.

These are all homages of the Porsche works team's 1978 911 SC Safaris entered at the East African Safari Rally.

Those are so cool, and more useful than the one you have now.

One of the cars that will be at an event I do some behind the scenes stuff for.

Pontiac G8 (Holden Monaro) turned in to an Aussie-style burnout machine.

He said he's bringing 16 rear tires and 165 gallons of methanol.
