New bike time!

Post by bocbass »

After riding the wheels off of my 97 VFR750F the past few years, I got permission from the wife to get something a little newer. The motorcycle market is always tight when spring is around the corner, and COVID related shortages mean there aren't many new motorcycles in dealer inventory.

After some research and looking through classifieds I found myself a 2008 Yamaha FZ6. I'm going to pick it up this weekend from an older gentleman who decided to trade motorcycling for a BMW coupe. Pics to come!

NICE! I really miss riding sometimes, even though I haven't had a motorcycle in close to 14 years. There is really nothing like it.

The last bike I had was a 2005 R6, and it was incredible, though a little uncomfortable, even as a person in his 20s. (Can't imagine my back now at dangerously close to 40). If I were to get another bike it'd be in that FZ6 segment. Best of both worlds.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

My VFR still runs really well, and I could probably put many more miles on it. But it is a 550+ LB bike, and my knees are telling me that it might be time for something a little lighter. With the FZ6 I'll be losing close to 100 pounds with out losing anything in the power department. I've never been comfortable on sportbikes like the R6, GSX-R, etc. The VRF was really about as "sport" as I've ever had. I'm really looking forward to the more upright riding position of the FZ6.

I have owned a few bikes in my time and replaced my last vehicle with this.

Suzuki GSX750F - loved it.
But over time the old hips didn’t like the jap bike position for long periods.

I then upgraded to this a few years later at a time where the right bike, right price, right place came along.
I still have it and still love it.
I test rode the scout and scout 60 not long after they made it out here to Aus.

2016 Indian scout.

2021 will be my first full year without a motorcycle in the last 5 years or so.

I've owned:
2002 Kawasaki Ninja ZX-6R
2000 Kawasaki Ninja 500
2005 Honda 599 (Hornet/CB600F)

The 599 had the best rising position, but I really liked the linear power delivery of the 500cc parallel twin.

As promised here is a pic. So much more comfortable to this out of shape 40 year old than the VFR. Needs new tires and tabs, but otherwise great shape!

I've always loved the 599, but it seems those that have them never sell, and ask a kings ransom when they do.

They were more expensive than other competition at the time, so less were sold. I got mine for $2.2k with less than 6k miles, but I had to put tires and have the carbs rebuilt/cleaned.

The 919 was waaaaay more popular, powerful and common.
