Correct. Controls the amount of the coffee that is ground and thus the strength.

OK. Strength can be controlled multiple ways, so I wasn’t sure if it was just adding more grounds at coarseness it’s already set to, or changing that automatically somehow.CigarCity wrote:Correct. Controls the amount of the coffee that is ground and thus the strength.
I like it the way it is. Cool machine.
How do you adjust the grind?
Re: Coffee Talk: a coffee thread
You adjust the grind with a dial inside the door where the beans go.

What a cool machine. I need one.
They have a lot going on inside. Do you use distilled water?

We use filtered water from the refrigerator, but the water is really hard here in FLA so we probably should be using distilled water. Having said that there is a sensor (not sure how it works) that comes on an tells me to descale the machine relatively frequently.

Is it the amount, or the grind? On ours its the grind - coatse to extra fine
Re: Coffee Talk: a coffee thread
Up-thread he posted a pic of the grind adjustment where you load the beans. The dial on the front adjusts actual quantity, which is awesome.

We use distilled water in all machines. I never have to do anything and they last forever.CigarCity wrote:We use filtered water from the refrigerator, but the water is really hard here in FLA so we probably should be using distilled water. I do also have a water distiller that runs a lot so I don’t have to be at the store constantly buying more.
This is at my mother in law’s house where we’re temporarily living while we find a house, so distiller is in storage unfortunately.
I have the Kenmore version of this Waterwise distiller and this is my second in 18 years. The original was still fine but my wife dropped the boiler side and broke the handle, and I happened to have a new boxed one to replace it. Otherwise it would still be going for 18 years. Extremely reliable machine.

You can buy carbon packs to go in the carafe on Amazon for cheap, which absorbs the VOCs that distilling does not remove. Any other questions on water quality PM me, I’m a crackhead on water, air, and food contamination. IQAir if you are into air.

I bought a Jura A1, which arrived about a week ago. It's my first expresso machine. I like it! It's kinda basic but that's okay. It's fully automatic and I can get my coffee quickly. Now I just have to drink lots of coffee to make it worthwhile (I did enjoy an affogato today!). I will get a French press as well.

Sounds like a good excuse for having friends over. What would you serve with it? I have always enjoyed bagels with coffee, topped with cream cheese, capers and red onions. A good plain bagel with just butter is also delicious.pdsf wrote: ↑Tue Mar 15, 2022 7:53 pm I bought a Jura A1, which arrived about a week ago. It's my first expresso machine. I like it! Hi @BostonCharlie - hmmmm, you just made me hungry. Yes, bagels are great, love them. I have a soft spot for honey on toast. Oh, and I love bundt cake! That should go very well with coffee! How about affogato for everyone!!?!? hmmmm

One of my favorite things to eat with coffee is a peanut butter and honey sandwich. Here's how I make mine:
Three slices of bread.
Toast one slice.
Spread peanut butter on each of the other two slices.
Spread honey on one side of toast, then put it honey side down on one of the peanut buttered slices.
Honey the other side of the toast.
Place final piece of bread on top.
Firmly press together.
It's like having a wedge of honeycomb in the middle of the sandwich. It's heaven.
