Jobs in the Watch World

Post by yinzburgher »

Want to work in the watch industry? Or rather the watch journalism industry. I don't look at this publication all that much but when I do, I'm always impressed with the photography. Just thought I'd put it out there in case anyone here is considering a career change.

We’re Hiring! Join Team Watchonista!

Very cool, but not cool enough to write a new resume just about watches.

Hopefully others have the time because it would be seriously fun.

I recently moved and the first people I’ve met are watch and clock professionals. They are relatively old in terms of career guys. And they’re all telling me I need to open a watch shop. Apparently they are literally overwhelmed with basic stuff like battery changes, bracelet sizing, etc. They look at me with a straight face and swear it would be more than I can handle if I want the work.

I’m wondering how big of a demand there is for a mail-in service that would be nationwide and advertised as such. Kinda seems like a no-brainer. Mail it in, get your service, free shipping back.

Thoughts?

Not sure if the need for battery replacement makes sense for sending in a watch. Too much shipping costs and potential loss through carriers to justify.

But for more involved service, cleaning, etc. That would make sense as there are plenty of collectors out there who don't live near to good, reliable watchmakers.

Bricks and mortar get my licks just for kicks
AD or authorized I don't analyze
Retail, wholesale never fail
Online or offline, I find I don't redefine
Too big to fail or yard sale they all hale
Run or hide just for fun deals I find
