Seaborne Windward Concepts.

#1

Post by SeaborneBrian » Tue Mar 02, 2021 9:57 am

The Seaborne Windward is our entry into the “dressy field watch” category. This is a 37mm watch with 10mm thickness. It’s designed to feel like a more vintage size with some updated features. The Windward is built around a Miyota 90S5 automatic movement. We may also offer a quartz option. There are some additional color combinations but these are the starting options when we go forward.

Some design highlights:

* This is a tiered sandwich dial. The indices are actually cut outs with the lume coming from below.
* The inner dial has a wave pattern texture while the outer is a sand texture.
* 316L marine-grade stainless steel and WR is 100m
* The case is more fluid with no sharp edges
* Most dials will have at least 2 different lume colors.
* This has a domed sapphire crystal that has a cool vintage vibe to it.
* A tapered steel bracelet option is likely

Your thoughts and ideas are welcome!

Thank you for stopping by and sharing Windward with us!

The teal/coral immediately caught my eye. At first glance, it's playful and delightfully summery, and would definitely be my pick of the bunch.

I'll for sure be watching this project with a lot of interest.

Those look amazing Brian.
Wish you the best success on the release of those models.

Curious as to what you are considering for pricing of the auto and quartz versions.

My 2cents opinion. the teal/coral is so unique compared to the rest.
Wonder if more can be done to make the other colorways stand out?

Like yellow with a black or blue chapter ring.
White with a blue or black chapter ring.
Blue with a white or yellow chapter ring.
You get the idea.

I was thinking something similar.

The white is fetching, but I think it needs a bit more contrast. A black chapter ring might just do the trick.

Here's my comment from the New Releases thread:
Man I really like these. I am initially drawn to the teal/orange one. I like colors. But at least in the pic provided, you almost lose the sandwich dial in the face of the bright colors, especially compared to the navy dial. Is it possible to make the deal a little darker? This might not matter when you see it in the metal because it will be more noticeable in 3D.
Do you have IRL pics of the teal/coral? Would like to see how the sandwich dial stands out in that colorway.
I wish that watch were 38mm?

Thank you!

For the auto I’m looking to be in the mid-$400 range if I can get there.

The quartz I’m still sourcing ideas but I likely will use the Ameriquartz movement.

Also - these will be assembled here in the US.

Yes! All of these had a two-tone look and I toned the down a bit based on other comments I am going to bring them back in. I’m also working on a cool purple one.

The white is mother-of-pearl and that might stay all white to be the dressiest of the group.

I’ll be having more 3D images build as I settle on the colors. It is hard to see but I’ll post some of the 3D views of the various dial pieces coming together. You’re right in that the samples will ultimately show the coolness of this dial!

Hi Brian,

I wish you absolute success on these. The teal is my favorite for the reasons stated above. I will go ahead and commit to buy one once you go live, i am also very happy to post a review.
