August 2019 HUISABH! Stats

Post by MoT »

Heads Up! Stats: Wake Me Up When September Ends Edition

Well, summer is just about over and soon the leaves will be changing and the cool air will set in. Although TheJohnP, The Sultan of SoWhat, yinzburgher, BostonCharlie and the other usual suspects were on their games, there was a decline of 85 deals from July. 405 deals posted from 96 brands (an increase of 1) produced a monetary total that was actually more than last month. An interesting result for sure, and most likely buoyed by deals from watches where the retail value is five digits.

TheJohnP remains the member to catch, although his deals in August were down 20 from July. We also had quite a few new deal posters this month, so I'd like to extend a special shout-out to them. Welcome bezel2019, BTP, KarmaToBurn, Neurogenes, Orrelljet, and the__fox!

(I added a Non-Invicta/Fashion Brand category this month, just because. :D )

To the numbers!

(As always, if there is a particular brand, site or other pieces of data you'd like, let me know and I can provide it.)

Let's remember a few things first:
 • I based these calculations on new and refurbished watches only.
 • I do not include watch accessories or used watches.
 • I only included deals with links.
 • The retail price used was either the retail price listed on the selling website or found on the manufacturer's site.
 • Currency, if not in USD was converted to USD using Google's currency exchange calculator on the date the deal was posted.
 • "Largest" and "Smallest" deal is based solely on the percentage savings from listed retail. I do not make subjective determinations on the brands perceived value. That is up to you, the reader.

I've done it in the past, mostly during 2018. I discontinued it as some had argued it went against my desire to be totally objective and to just present the raw data.

Thanks again MoT for the stats. I would like to see a more inclusive Deal Posters count to give more members a chance to be recognized, top ten, at least the top three, who seem untouchable. Also I'm not sure what the Not Invicta/Fashion deal is suppose to illustrate. Sounds to me like second place sour grapes. lol.

I would argue it's more objective w/o Invicta as it is more of an anomaly and no longer a genuine bargain or discount when they are marked aggressively down 365 days 24/7.

A Top Five or Top Ten Deal Posters would be simple enough to do and is a pretty good idea.

As for Not Invicta/Fashion; It's a debate that's gone on for as long as I've been doing this. Invicta usually takes the "Largest Deal" spot because of their arguably inflated MSRP versus their continually discounted prices, combined with the fact that I have always stated that I just post the numbers and the reader can decide if it is a deal or not.

Perhaps going forward I could do a Top Five or Top Ten posted deals. It would mean a moderate amount of more work for me, but nothing I am against if it makes the community happy.

As for the largest Invicta or non Invicta deal I wouldn't bother with the extra work if the result are going to be the same - a bogus deal. In your data above Invicta has 92%, other 89%, meaningless in my opinion.
