As you may have noticed, we we're offline this morning. This was caused by the "Thanks" plug-in going rogue and using up way too many server resources. This triggered an automatic suspension by our hosting provider as they thought it was a malicious attack. The "Thanks" plug-in has been disabled, hopefully temporarily so I can determine if that was indeed the cause, and take steps to prevent it from happening in the future.

I apologize for the disruption and for any confusion that may have caused.

Show Off Your New Watch

Post by JMD1082 »

Just got my Seiko King Samurai in from the woot deal posted in the forum and I am very happy with it. Strap is super comfortable and this is my first experience with a Seiko that has a sapphire crystal and an ceramic bezel. Even at 44mm which is the top end of my range it feels great on the wrist with relatively short lugs, and I love the texture on the dial. Overall I think this was a great score for the price. Thanks to whomever posted the deal originally Image

Seiko "Land Tortoise" (beige/green colorway) SRPG13. This one caught my eye when introduced, but the original cost quickly allowed me to forget about it. They've come down quite a bit since then.

Photo is tinted a bit warmer than reality:

I love the size for my 6 3/4" wrist. I now know I don't need to look at baby Turtles nor regular Turtles. These newer slim cases are great. And yes the strap is every bit as stiff as reviews have said. Not sure if I'll look for olive green or light brown, but I want a nice leather for it that's not thick.

What I like: Everything but the size. Watches without rotating bezels look better when smaller. This is 40mm, the "commonly accepted darling" of watchdom. I'm convinced 36-38mm makes more sense here.

It's a keeper, tho. I love the "everyday design" and specs.

Saw this Citizen Promaster version of their Avion case on OWD's ebay 25% off sale. Ended up being $100, and I think it's a good upgrade over my old Avion that you see in the last shot.

It's 200m water resistance (no screw down crown), has time zone functionality, perpetual calendar, and much better lume than the old one I have. I wish it was sapphire. I believe per Citizen's page that this is discontinued. Didn't realize that when I ordered, but I'm glad I did. I actually kind of wanted the blue model, but like this one, too.

The case appears to be the same as the old one. The bezel is coin edge on this one vs just polished on the old one. And the new one has a drilled hole for the button that changes the DST and perpetual calendar.

Now what do I do with my old one? Keep it or send it off to a new home?

So I just happened to stop by at local Rolex dealer for a Whiskey and watch night and there was one available DateJust 41 Green Dial for MSRP $8200 + tax. Well, I walked out with that one after clearing it with my wife.

It was buy first, think later, others are waiting decision. My first Rolex, hopefully I made the right choice. What do you think MOT? I can post more pics tomorrow if you guys want to check it out. thanks!

Thanks. I had a couple of opportunities pick up a Rolex over the years. It just wasn't the right time for me with a growing young family. Finally, I am at a place in life where I can purchase one without feeling a little selfish or guilt. I am pretty happy with the purchase. Thanks.
