Counterfeit Watch Database

Post by BostonCharlie »

I was briefly fooled by a fake watch being sold by a private seller. My idea is to post information here about these kinds of counterfeits (and their sellers) in the hopes that buyers googling around might be able to avoid being scammed. Of course, a good listing photo and description doesn't mean the seller won't ship a counterfeit instead of the real thing, so -- as always -- caveat emptor.

Good idea!

I recently came across one on Reddit, but the seller pulled the listing as soon as I called it out.

Poshmark user tannerhickson here appears to be selling a fake Fortis here. He has other fake looking Fortis listings, too.

Leah Byrd has this dubious Seiko listing on Mercari. Not an expert, but the bezel doesn't look authentic to me. Misaligned chapter ring, lol. Seller previous sold this "turtle". Again, would be glad to learn I am mistaken.

Mercari seller cocorete has this dubious "G-Shock" offering:

Update to say that not long after reporting it to Mercari the listing is down. That's cool.

I attempted to buy a BN0157 from a seller on ebay. Listed as a new watch. Was the only watch the guy had listed at the time, but since there are a bunch of these things on his account. Had low 90's approval rating, which should have warned me off. Price of the watch was about $40 less than the cheapest I'd seen for new, and it's a rare color model that doesn't show up outside of the gray market in the US (BN0157 in OD green).

https://www.ebay.com/usr/jafreg12_2

First sign something is going wrong is ebay tells me it's shipped "media mail", which is not supposed to be used for watches. Then it runs past the deliver date so I start filing a claim. Then the listing changes with multiple watches of different hard to get models saying they come without boxes and ship from Japan. At this point, I know I've been had. Look at the guys ebay rating and it's now dropped to low 80's and a review has come up that he's been sent a fake BN0150 watch from AliExpress. Sure enough, some of the models use pictures straight from AE that you can tell are fake.

Today I finally get something in the mail. Faker than Bigfoot riding the Loch Ness monster around Sea World. I put in for a refund, open an ebay ticket on counterfeit goods, and post a negative review. I get this response:

"Sir I appreciate your business I approved the refund request as soon as I saw your request. I would appreciate you give me an opportunity to make it right, but you jumped the gun and post negative feedback right away."

Ha! The nerve. No way you could make it right dude. You are trying to steal my money and other people's money.

I never would have fallen for it if the guy had a bunch of watches on his account like he does now. There was only one listing when I started with a couple of iffy sales of some kind of trading cards knocking his rating down a bit. Oh well.
