Re: Incoming! What have you got in the mail?
We are remodeling part of our house, and as part of the deal my wife agreed to let me pick a "new" mantle clock. Here's what I picked up for $60 shipped from an online goodwill auction:
These are "1000 day" clocks which supposedly only need winding every 1000 days. You wind up a mainspring, which drives a torsion pendulum pendulum that rotates every 6 seconds. Not sure if it works, but it looks to be in good shape. I'm excited to see.
I might make a thread for Goodwill auctions. There is some interesting/hilarious stuff. Some bargains to be had but other stuff is crazy overpriced -- see Seiko divers for example.

We had one like the below when I was a kid. I can't speak to the power reserve as my father would wind it twice a year (at time change), but not in between.
I can remember spending time staring at those balls swinging back and forth.

I don't plan on waiting out the full 1000 days to see if it can make it -- mostly because I'm not that patient lol. Twice yearly seems like a good system. Or maybe on my birthday every year.ManOnTime wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 2:00 pmNice find!Boourns wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 12:19 pm We are remodeling part of our house, and as part of the deal my wife agreed to let me pick a "new" mantle clock. Had it delivered to my office to tinker with it, and it arrived today. Not sure yet if its working, but all the parts seem to be there. It appears that the goodwill folks wound it up all the way before shipping it, which I would guess is not ideal.Boourns wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 12:19 pm We are remodeling part of our house, and as part of the deal my wife agreed to let me pick a "new" mantle clock. Did not plan for this, but it's been on my want list for years. Price was ridiculously good so I had to grab it. And I wouldn't have seen it if it weren't for @TheJohnP so thank you John.

Re: Incoming! What have you got in the mail?
After a long spell of not buying any watches I went a little crazy on eBay.
1929 Bulova Lone Eagle. This is unique in that there's actually a decent amount known about this model and some original sales literature. 14k white gold plated case and a hunter-style caseback. I absolutely love the dial and handset and how they've aged. As far as I can tell this is all original and unrestored.
Aaaand a project watch- crown/stem doesn't turn, but the movement and dial are so clean (and again appear completely original/untouched-up) that it's worth the $20 I spent on it that I can get it working again.

Super happy to have this one coming now too. Really did not think I'd ever find one under $3k on bracelet.
