$250 JLC...For Real?

Post by TimePeace »

Hi all,

I’ve noticed numerous used JLC watches on eBay for around the $200-$500 mark. These are mainly the Club models. One example:

Are these for real? Looks like starting Seiko prices. Seems like an inexpensive way to get into JLC watches.

I’m no expert on authenticity, but suspiciously low price plus shipping from India is an immediate red flag.

I agree with @Sussa here. I do see these low cost older JLC branded vintage watches often, but thus far have steered clear. Sorry I cannot offer more help.

Did a little more research to give a more robust answer. The movement has a hallmark indicating it's an AS 1916. JLV did use that movement in some Club models, as well as the AS 1906. The corrosion, especially on the rotor, gives me pause, especially from a seller with 98% rating who claims to service each watch before they sell it.

Are the dial, hands, and case authentic? No idea. Is this combination of parts an original model? That's where price and country of origin make me think no. JLC Clubs are being offered on Chrono 24 for $1200-2000. And if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Whether real, authentic or not…its clearly been abused…personally I would not want to own it. The seller appears to have several similar models listed at similar prices….and in similar condition. Guessing they acquired a lot of badly damaged watches or boxes of parts and cobbled them together.

Thanks, @watchpalooza and @Sussa . I thought similarly. Amazing how many of these are on eBay!
