A new strapsco strap for my Alpina Alpiner blue. Further details and some light commentary below:

Image

Image

Background: I recently picked up an Alpina Alpiner blue on bracelet, with the intention of buying the Alpina strap for it afterwards.

This is the Alpina strap (or as close to it as possible - many sites add a lot of filters to their pictures so it'sdifficulttosay for sure):

Image

For some reason, however, I cannot find the Alpina strap anywhere for love nor money. The other issue is that the Alpina has 21mm lugs, which a lot of places don't carry.

Not to fear, though, Strapsco.com to the rescue!

I was trying to match the Alpina strap as closely as possible.

To my eye, the vintage leather straps seemed the best style match (https://strapsco.com/product/vintage-le ... xtra-long/).

Of those, Cognac and Dark Sand seemed the best colour matches (third and last from left in this picture), though, for the reason given below, I'm now wondering whether Oak Brown (penultimate from left) would also be a close match.

Image

I also picked up a 22mm Dassari Salvage leather strap as a freebie.

Shipping was...slow. About a month and a half, but they finally arrived. Packaging was simple, plastic wallets in a padded envelope, but really what more do you need?

Initial impression is that all three straps are slightly lighter in colour than their website pictures - not by much, but noticeable to the eye when comparing the two. It doesn't really make a difference on the watch, however. (This is also why I think the Oak Brown might work.)

The other thing is that the difference in shades between the straps is less pronounced in person. Here are crap photos of the straps side-by-side. The watch is on the Cognac strap (I think - the straps/ packages aren't labelled.)

There is an obvious difference, but perhaps not quite as much as expected.

Quality seems good: the vintage straps are about 3mm thick with rubber (?) on the sides. The Dassari is around 5mm thick, also with rubber sides.

The vintages have quick release springbars fitted, the Dassari has standard bars included in the packet.

The leather on all three is surprisingly soft and supple. I've only tried the Cognac on so far, but it is immediately comfortable on the wrist and doesn't seem to need any breaking in.

On the whole, I'm very pleased with them and I think will be buying more from these guys soon.

My three latest cheap watch acquisitions with my three latest cheap straps. All of the straps in this photo are from the Amazon coupons posted on myvipon.com. The Duro is wearing a silicone rubber strap and the two rectangles have different variants of leather. Cost after the coupon was around $6 each and they are well worth the cost IMO.

A cuff-style Fossil strap I got with an eb*y deal for under $20 (it came on a used but working Casio AMW320F). Here I have it on a (20mm lugs) Dakota quartz watch acquired in another such bargain a few months ago (and was built for this type of strap). I'll experiment with other watch heads...maybe some retro chronographs?

So sometimes you get the bear. It’s about the nicest cuff strap I’ve seen, and basically came free with a cool watch. Width is 37mm. For now I’ve decided to wear it “upside down” to get the bulky tail and keepers to the inside of the wrist.

$4.70 on Amazon after code 70S7TOT2 and a $1 check box coupon. This one is probably the only 18mm leather strap I own and I bought it just for this particular watch, which I think is the only 18mm lug width watch I own. These straps are quite nice, especially for the discounted price, but I would be willing to pay the full $19 if I needed a strap.

New to me bracelet at any rate.
Picked up this vintage bracelet off Etsy for my Timex Falcon Eye. The stock one is way too long for me, and thankfully this one has plenty of microadjust.

Picked up a Christopher Ward 22mm Tropic Rubber strap in black last weekend and it arrived today. Very supple, no rough burs and looks pretty sharp. I wanted an alternative to the bracelet on my Trident Pro 600 White and Black Dial. I think its a win.

Don't mind the date/time, I pulled this out of the box to take a few pictures. It's been sitting for a while
