Watchpalooza’s watch storage project
Starting this thread to chronicle the journey toward storing all my watches. Had planned to build a wall cabinet over the holidays (and took time off), but the hardware stores have as of today all closed until earliest mid-January.
Since construction is delayed, I decided to start with getting pillows for all my watches...and get all my watches onto pillows. The box of pillows arrived a few hours ago.
I found black “velvet” pillows on Amazon for about €1/pillow including shipping and import fees. I decided to start with 110 of them...shown here in their packaging:
The quality is much better than I expected, and I will definitely order more for the other 2/3 of the collection. Here are the first 80 watches snugly fit onto pillows:
I have another 120 or so here in boxes and winders, but I notice the price on Amazon has now gone up slightly due to Amazon’s **** custom pricing algorithm showing that these are valuable to me. I will have to order the rest from my wife’s account to get the better pricing. The rest of the collection is in California, so I can deal with them later.
I am still working on the cabinet plans, but will share details here once ready....and of course updates through the build and final pictures once complete.

Awesome. Love home builds and looking forward to seeing your progress.
Re: Watchpalooza’s watch storage project
I showed my wife this thread to try to prove I didn't have too many watches, and this was her reaction:
I wish that watch were 38mm?
Re: Watchpalooza’s watch storage project
I know the struggle. 2 cabinets, 14 drawers total + two 24 ct. cases. Couple of sheets of closed cell foam + lots of hunting on Walmart.com + lots of patience.

The second order of pillows came surprisingly quickly. Here now 190 watches on pillows.

Can't wait to see the rest, and what else you have hanging out in the bay. Need me to "check" on them FTE?watchpalooza wrote:The second order of pillows came surprisingly quickly. Here now 190 watches on pillows.

Re: Watchpalooza’s watch storage project
How are you planning to rotate through the 8 rows keep an eye in what you have and how will you pull from the back and not bang into others or knock one off the shelf. Just curious...

Re: Watchpalooza’s watch storage project
This setup is only temporary until the hardware stores reopen and I can build a proper cabinet. In the end, this is to be a wall-hanging cabinet that is only 1 watch deep...a wall of watches.ncstate1201 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 03, 2021 6:46 am How are you planning to rotate through the 8 rows keep an eye in what you have and how will you pull from the back and not bang into others or knock one off the shelf.
