Is anyone else here a 3D printing enthusiast?
I have a MakerGear M2 at work, and was curious to see how much overlap there is in this community.

I want one, I have no need for one, but I want one.

Re: 3D Printers?
I want to print tuna shrouds.
Re: 3D Printers?
Does anyone need one? Not really. It just takes away tooling costs and makes some fabrication repeatable and trivial. I have been able to make things that weren’t commercially viable that a small community actually needed. The parts weren’t anything that couldn’t have otherwise been made, but the trial and error costs became negligible and part cost was minimal for the utility.ManOnTime wrote:I want one, I have no need for one, but I want one.
I enjoy having it as a tool, but it isn’t the only tool I would want to have. I won’t talk about the lowering costs of printers as we all know we don’t need enabling.

That would be a pretty good use case. I would have to look at the shroud design, but it should be doable. You could have a number of shrouds and swap in the right color as desired.Robotaz wrote:I want to print tuna shrouds.
I would like to print movement spacer rings, gaskets and some rubber Timex-type straps that aren’t available any more or were never made in a material that lasted.

Re: 3D Printers?
Last summer I took my kids to a science and engineering event for kids. They had a couple there making toys and things. Really crazy what you can do with them. I never would have imagined having something like that available for home use.

I had access to a makerbot at work, never could quite pull the trigger myself for one at home; but I've made a number of prints with services such as Shapeways.
