Lol, no mountains here in NL. MoT has been resting too long and will be on it's way after a final good-bye.

Last biking round with Mot, I’ve sadly neglected him lately due to travel, work and weather.

Image
First stop is a plaquette memorizing a one-time German radar station on the Dutch-Belgian border. In WW2 Jerry would search the night skies for British bombers on their way to Germany and dial the airport for a Messerschmitt attack.

Next, here’s some oldies standing guard at the mentioned Gilze military airport.

Image

Under German occupation it was a base for the Luftwaffe, with hidden artillery, dummy runways and concrete barracks disguised as farmhouses. Nowadays it's a chopper base for Apache's and Chinooks. Sometimes they ask me to do a photoshoot here for personnel ads.

The airport also hosts a macabre wreck: the ghostly reconstruction of Malaysian airways flight MH17, the airplane that was tragically shot out of the sky by a BUK rocket over Ukraine.

(not my pic)

To end on a more cheerful note, here’s a farewell salute with a drop of Berenburg, a traditional herbal drink from the Northern Netherlands.

Bye! Have fun in Germany with @watchpalooza !

Good to hear! I gotta say though, it's the same package it arrived in from Australia, from @Ironman_KL ! Really looking forward to MoT's adventures in Bavaria.

I imagine many biers will be involved, 'cause if the actual MoT was in Bavaria, there certainly would be!

MoT got into a game of "Risiko" and enjoyed some homemade layered chocolate cake with rasberry poprock filling while celebrating my son's 12yo birthday.

So far a quiet visit with inclement weather. MoT has spent the time observing and becoming comfortable with local rituals. This morning was a proud moment as he started the day with a too strong Bier on the couch:

Image

The only one minor ‘coaching point’ is that he jumped straight into the Helles without first enjoying the customary morning Weisbier. While I personally am not offended, I can see how this could be controversial as it threatens the only time in Germany specifically reserved for enjoying Weisbier. He may require several trial and error attempts before mastering this point, but he appears up for the challenge.

I have truly enjoyed having MoT to visit, and will post more pictures soon. But my life is right now pretty boring with restrictions in place, and we are not going anywhere. SO, in the hopes of his having a much more interesting holiday outside of Germany, I would like to prepare MoT to go to his next destination. Who is next to receive?

That would be @Wolfsatz back on this side of the pond. Unless there are any member in Europe that want to give MoT a home for a few weeks.
