Is espresso machine pump pressure different than the quoted pressure usually seen at the actual pressed coffee? I’m seeing 7-9 bar or whatever, but a lot of machines run up to 19 or more.

Just read a good review for this manual Flair Pro 2.
I prefer the more basic look of their Neo, but the pressure gauge above is pretty fun.
You can have utility and beauty, for a price. Their 58x:

Having to keep the chamber hot/warm than do all the prep quickly so not to lose to much heat in the chamber...eh.
To much effort for me, but they do look fantastic!

Given that cleaning a milk frother can be a bit of a chore, would you recommend buying it as a separate thing (seems to be cheaper that way) vs getting an expresso machine with a frother function?

Milk frother can do both hot and cold. An espresso machine will have a steam wand, and it takes a bit of technique to produce foamed milk. Also it will only be warm (no cold/room temp). I also agree that a milk frother is a PITA to clean.
Personally, I would use a French press. It works very well considering it's not originally designed for it.

I've been interested in things like this, and those concentrated coffee syrups. The cost has been the only thing keeping me away.

The concept is interesting and I wouldn't mind trying it.
